The Department of Earth Sciences is Sweden's most comprehensive academic environment for research and education in earth sciences. The Future Club GRO, a collaboration between CEMUS and Uppsala Municipality, provides school students in Uppsala with opportunities for in-depth understanding and dialogue about sustainable development in a creative after-school club. The project targets students in grades 4-9 with particular aptitude and an interest in sustainability issues. Through various exercises, interactive lectures, discussions, role-playing, and workshops, these students have the chance to engage with peers from different schools in Uppsala Municipality. We are seeking four students to be employed as teaching assistants for the academic year 2026-2027 to work as after-school club leaders, planning and leading sessions for grades 4-6 (two leaders) and grades 7-9 (two leaders). Grades 4-6 meet on Wednesdays 16:30-18:00, and grades 7-9 meet 18:15-19:45, with a total of 9 sessions per term per grade level. As a teaching assistant, you are a student working part-time alongside your studies. The program is called Future Club GRO and started in spring 2019 with great interest and engagement from Uppsala's primary school students. Learn more here: https://www.cemus.uu.se/gro/ Duties The work involves planning and delivering Future Club GRO sessions. Each GRO group has a team consisting of 2 students employed at CEMUS, Center for Environment and Development Studies, who plan and lead the sessions. The work includes lesson planning and facilitating exercises and workshops, with a focus on interactive teaching methods. The work is done in collaboration and dialogue with Uppsala Municipality and CEMUS. Qualifications To be employed as a teaching assistant, it is a requirement that you are admitted to a program at the basic or advanced level. • Excellent Swedish language skills, both spoken and written, are necessary. • Good computer skills. • Documented ability to independently conduct and complete work tasks within given timeframes, even during temporary peak periods. • Great emphasis will be placed on personal suitability. Desirable/Meritorious qualifications Studies in sustainable development. Studies in teacher education. Experience with interdisciplinary education. Experience planning and leading workshops and seminars. Documented experience and strong ability to collaborate with people from different backgrounds.
