The position is placed at the Faculty of Medicine. Departmental placement is determined in connection with the appointment. The position will be combined with employment as a specialist physician/senior physician. Since the subject is defined as medical research, there is no specific need to fill. The purpose of the appointment is to recruit internationally competitive researchers with documented ability to conduct independent, high-quality research and with clear potential to develop into future leaders in academia. Duties Duties primarily include independent research and development work as well as supervision of master's and doctoral students, but also teaching at undergraduate level, leadership, and administration. Other duties may also be included. Qualifications Eligible for appointment as a lecturer according to the Higher Education Ordinance 4 chapter 4 § is a person who has both demonstrated pedagogical competence and completed a doctoral degree or has equivalent scientific competence or other professional competence that is relevant considering the subject content of the position and the duties to be included in the employment. The applicant must have completed university pedagogical training equivalent to at least five weeks or acquired equivalent knowledge in another way, unless there are special reasons. The employee must then complete university pedagogical training during the first two years of employment to meet this requirement. Since the appointment as university lecturer is combined with employment as a specialist-trained physician, the applicant must have a specialist competence certificate and possess the necessary knowledge of Swedish required for the medical profession according to the definition of the National Board of Health and Welfare at the time of taking up the clinical position (Swedish language skills, at least level C1 according to the Council of Europe scale, which also accepts equivalent knowledge of Norwegian or Danish). Assessment Criteria The applicant must have demonstrated scientific and pedagogical competence of significance to the subject. Special weight will be given to scientific competence in the assessment. The applicant must have demonstrated scientific competence by maintaining a good national and international level as a researcher and have well-documented scientific competence. The applicant must have a doctoral degree within a subject area relevant to the position. Scientific competence must be documented through an independent research profile that has made an international impact. This means that the applicant has established a distinct research line that is separate from previous advisors or research environments, has ongoing grants obtained in competition with the applicant as principal investigator, experience of a postdoc period conducted in an environment other than where the applicant received their doctoral degree, and publications in peer-reviewed journals. Particular consideration is given to publications with the applicant as a senior author. Weight will also be placed on pedagogical competence and ability to supervise master's students and doctoral candidates. Pedagogical competence must be demonstrated both in teaching and in supervision at undergraduate, advanced, and doctoral levels. Consideration will also be given to demonstrated ability in leadership, collaboration, clinical competence, and demonstrated ability to interact with the surrounding society. Regarding clinical competence, experience of independent work in healthcare is required where the applicant has current clinical activity. In the appointment, scientific development potential will be particularly emphasized. This includes the ability to build and lead a competitive research environment in the long term. The applicant's research profile must further have the potential to strengthen the faculty's international impact and contribute to the development of excellent research environments. Professor in Pulmonary Medicine Combined with Specialist Physician Position
Uppsala University, Department of Medical Sciences Description of the Subject Area The disease panorama in pulmonary medicine spans several major public health conditions such as asthma, sleep apnea, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), allergic airway diseases, and lung cancer. Within these areas, the research group conducts clinical and epidemiological studies. In collaboration with preclinical research groups, the group also participates in several translational projects. Duties The duties include research, teaching, clinical service, and administration. Teaching includes course responsibility, course administration, and supervision of doctoral students. The holder also has a responsibility to follow developments in their own field. The appointee is expected to lead an active research group and to initiate and conduct research projects. The appointee is also expected to have the ability to competitively obtain external research funding. The position also includes clinical work as a specialist physician in pulmonary medicine at Uppsala University Hospital, which entails close coordination between research, education, and clinical activity. Qualification Requirements To be eligible for appointment as professor, one must have demonstrated both scientific and pedagogical skill (Chapter 4, Section 3, HF). According to Section 5 of Uppsala University's Employment Regulations (AO), the general qualification requirement for teachers is that the applicant must have the ability to cooperate and otherwise meet the requirements of suitability needed to perform the duties well. Scientific skill must be demonstrated through independent research contributions and through merits that are of very high quality from an international perspective. Pedagogical skill must be demonstrated through extensive merits in teaching in accordance with Section 22 AO. Furthermore, the applicant must demonstrate well-documented skill in supervision at undergraduate, advanced, and research levels. A prerequisite for pedagogical skill is completion of relevant university pedagogical education of at least ten weeks, or equivalent knowledge. The pedagogical education must include doctoral supervision training (Section 32 AO). For eligibility for this position, a medical degree and Swedish proof of specialist competence in pulmonary medicine are required. Furthermore, the ability to plan, initiate, lead, and develop research and education at the research level, the ability to competitively obtain research funding, and the ability to cooperate with society through research will be given importance (Section 20 AO). Pedagogical skill refers to teaching merits. In assessing pedagogical skill, pedagogical quality will be primarily considered. Scope, both breadth and depth, will also be given importance. Clinical skill is demonstrated through clinical work and clinical education as well as participation in clinical development work. Clinical development work includes, among other things, initiatives that have improved or made healthcare more efficient (Section 24 AO). Selection Criteria, Other Skills Administrative skill and leadership skill are important for the position and will be given weight. The ability to cooperate with society as well as to communicate about research and development work will be considered. Administrative skill is demonstrated, among other things, through the ability to plan, organize, and prioritize work in an efficient and purpose-appropriate manner and through the ability to set and maintain timelines. The skill includes overall activity planning and the ability to manage resources in a way that reflects the activity's priorities (Section 28 AO). Leadership skill is demonstrated through the ability to lead activities and personnel, make decisions, take responsibility, and motivate and provide others with the conditions necessary to effectively reach common goals. The ability to coordinate the group as well as to contribute to creating commitment, participation, and job satisfaction, and the ability to handle conflicts are further examples of demonstrated skill (Section 30 AO). When assessing cooperation skill, experience of and skill in science communication, editorship, and other activities related to knowledge exchange between the university and the outside world, as well as experience in innovation and entrepreneurship will be given importance (Section 6 RB). Your responsibilities: As a physician with us, you will work in both outpatient and inpatient care. Work in outpatient care includes, for example, conducting clinic visits, participating in team rounds within oxygen/ventilator care and within cancer care. Other common duties include performing pulmonary procedures, such as bronchoscopy, EBUS, and chest tube drainage. Furthermore, work in inpatient care focuses on care related to hospitalized lung patients. In addition to this, there is ongoing development work within the pulmonology field. Since the clinic has a regional mandate, it requires high availability for consultation with physician colleagues throughout the county. Currently, physicians in pulmonology have no on-call or standby duties. However, there is a plan to introduce on-call services in the future. The Infectious Diseases and Pulmonology Clinic is a regional clinic with approximately 120 employees. We have operations within infectious diseases, pulmonology, and specialized adult allergology. The Pulmonology Section is responsible for specialized lung and allergy care for adults throughout the region. The section conducts extensive outpatient care at its own clinic. The clinic is well-developed and staffed with both nurses specialized in allergology, oxygen, and ventilator care, as well as contact nurses for the lung cancer process. Currently, no on-call duties on evenings and nights are included in the position, although some weekend duty may occur.
