Specialist Physician Neurology, Neuro Head and Neck Center, Umeå

The Neuro-Head-Neck Center (NHHC) consists of approximately 650 employees and is located at Norrlands University Hospital in Umeå. The center provides care with various aspects of investigation, treatment, and rehabilitation of diseases and injuries of the nervous system, brain, ear, nose, throat, and jaw surgery. The center is a regional clinic where highly specialized care is provided for patients from the entire northern healthcare region, and conducts research, education, and development. The Neurology Clinic has both planned and acute operations where the patient is always in focus. We have a large patient flow with both short and longer hospital stays. The operations include outpatient clinics with general and highly specialized neurological care, a neurology ward with both acute and planned investigation and treatment activities in areas such as movement disorders, epilepsy, and motor neuron diseases. As well as a Stroke Center with a complete care chain including thrombectomy operations, carotid surgery, and rehabilitation. We also provide neurological expertise to the entire northern healthcare region on a consultation basis 24 hours a day, year-round. At the clinic there are units for DBS operations, NIM/MS clinics, cerebrospinal fluid examinations, high competence in diagnostics and treatment of motor neuron diseases, and video telemetry operations (VEEG) are performed at the care ward. Within NHHC there is also a neurosurgical clinic and a clinical neurophysiological clinic. Active research is conducted at the clinic in movement disorders including DBS, motor neuron disease, cerebrospinal fluid circulation disorders, and stroke. We are now seeking an independent spine surgery specialist or senior physician who wants to combine advanced clinical practice with the opportunity to influence, develop, and make a long-term contribution to spine care within Region Östergötland. The position involves work with both acute and elective spine surgery as well as participation in the regional spine on-call rotation. Our offer Center for Surgery, Orthopedics and Cancer Care (CKOC) provides healthcare, research, and education in orthopedics, surgery, urology, oncology, hematology, and pulmonary medicine in Östergötland and within the Southeastern Healthcare Region. The Orthopedic Clinic at Linköping University Hospital is a large and well-established unit with approximately 150 employees. The clinic includes an inpatient ward with a teaching division, outpatient clinic, and rehabilitation unit, and provides both acute and planned orthopedic care. In addition to general orthopedics, the clinic's specialty areas are spine surgery, tumor surgery, pediatric orthopedics, and upper and lower extremity surgery, with responsibility for treating patients from the entire Southeastern Healthcare Region. On-call duty is part of the position. Following the implementation of the acute physician system, the clinic has no primary on-call coverage. Instead, an intermediate on-call shift and, as part of the university hospital's trauma care, an orthopedic on-call rotation and a separate spine on-call rotation are staffed around the clock. As spine on-call, you provide support to healthcare providers throughout the Southeastern Healthcare Region. Spine care at Linköping University Hospital is organized so that the Neurosurgery Clinic handles cervical spine cases, while spine surgeons at the Orthopedic Clinic are responsible for thoracic and lumbar spine injuries. Education of medical students is a natural and important part of the work. As a university healthcare unit, we prioritize research, with active research in almost all of our specialty areas.
