The Orthopedic Clinic at Linköping University Hospital is a large and well-established unit with approximately 150 employees. The clinic includes an inpatient ward with a teaching division, outpatient clinic, and rehabilitation unit, and provides both acute and planned orthopedic care. In addition to general orthopedics, the clinic's specialty areas are spine surgery, tumor surgery, pediatric orthopedics, and upper and lower extremity surgery, with responsibility for treating patients from the entire Southeastern Healthcare Region. The work is interprofessional and team-based, with established collaborations and networks with other specialties as well as regular multidisciplinary conferences. On-call duty is part of the position. Following the implementation of the acute physician system, the clinic has no primary on-call coverage. Instead, an intermediate on-call shift and, as part of the university hospital's trauma care, an orthopedic on-call rotation and a separate spine on-call rotation are staffed around the clock. As spine on-call, you provide support to healthcare providers throughout the Southeastern Healthcare Region. Spine care at Linköping University Hospital is organized so that the Neurosurgery Clinic handles cervical spine cases, while spine surgeons at the Orthopedic Clinic are responsible for thoracic and lumbar spine injuries.
