Professor in Pulmonary Medicine Combined with Specialist Physician Position
Uppsala University, Department of Medical Sciences Description of the Subject Area The disease panorama in pulmonary medicine spans several major public health conditions such as asthma, sleep apnea, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), allergic airway diseases, and lung cancer. Within these areas, the research group conducts clinical and epidemiological studies. In collaboration with preclinical research groups, the group also participates in several translational projects. Duties The duties include research, teaching, clinical service, and administration. Teaching includes course responsibility, course administration, and supervision of doctoral students. The holder also has a responsibility to follow developments in their own field. The appointee is expected to lead an active research group and to initiate and conduct research projects. The appointee is also expected to have the ability to competitively obtain external research funding. The position also includes clinical work as a specialist physician in pulmonary medicine at Uppsala University Hospital, which entails close coordination between research, education, and clinical activity. Qualification Requirements To be eligible for appointment as professor, one must have demonstrated both scientific and pedagogical skill (Chapter 4, Section 3, HF). According to Section 5 of Uppsala University's Employment Regulations (AO), the general qualification requirement for teachers is that the applicant must have the ability to cooperate and otherwise meet the requirements of suitability needed to perform the duties well. Scientific skill must be demonstrated through independent research contributions and through merits that are of very high quality from an international perspective. Pedagogical skill must be demonstrated through extensive merits in teaching in accordance with Section 22 AO. Furthermore, the applicant must demonstrate well-documented skill in supervision at undergraduate, advanced, and research levels. A prerequisite for pedagogical skill is completion of relevant university pedagogical education of at least ten weeks, or equivalent knowledge. The pedagogical education must include doctoral supervision training (Section 32 AO). For eligibility for this position, a medical degree and Swedish proof of specialist competence in pulmonary medicine are required. Job Description As a specialist physician, your main duties are to conduct neuropsychiatric assessments of children and young people according to national guidelines and BUP Stockholm's process maps, working together with a psychologist. After the assessment is completed, you are responsible for medical treatment of ADHD. You will see patients for initiation, follow-up, and evaluation of medication treatment in collaboration with nursing staff. You provide support to colleagues at treatment conferences and in assessment of cases based on your profession as a physician. There is an opportunity for remote work with digital patient work to the extent that the service allows. Qualifications Applicants should be a specialist in child and adolescent psychiatry or alternatively a specialist in adult psychiatry.
