As part of Region Gotland, we work in the Social Services Department's child and family care unit, providing social services such as counseling, support, and treatment for children and adults. Together, we enable good conditions for care, support, and services throughout life. We are now seeking contact families in our child and family care unit who want to make a difference for our children. Your responsibilities Sometimes it's difficult to manage everything as a parent. That's when a contact family can be a great help for both child and parent. The contact family welcomes a child, or several siblings, into their home. This usually involves one or a couple of weekends each month. Many think weekends need to be filled with activities. Usually, children wish for a weekend where the family does everyday things together. What matters most is that you spend time with each other and that the child feels like part of the family. The contact family becomes an important part of the child's and parents' network. Who are you? You don't need previous experience with similar assignments, but it's an advantage if you have experience working with or education related to children or youth. A contact family is an ordinary family, just a bit extra stable. Contact families can be different types of families—one or two adults, from different cultures and backgrounds. For some children, an older contact family that feels like an extra grandmother or grandfather is needed. For others, it's good to have peers within the family. It's important that everyone in the family welcomes the child. To become a contact family, you must undergo a brief investigation that includes obtaining records from the police's suspicion and criminal registers, social registers, the Enforcement Authority, and the Social Insurance Agency. This check is required for all who want to become contact families. Are you interested in opening your home and being an extra family for a child or young person on certain weekdays, evenings, or weekends? Then this might be something for you. As a respite care family, you receive a child or young person with a disability in your home during shorter periods. The service gives the child the opportunity for a change of environment, social community, and new experiences, while the child's regular family gets relief.
