Group Leader for Depression and Anxiety Discussion Group
We are a non-profit organization for individuals with mental health challenges.
In this discussion group, people diagnosed with Depression or Anxiety meet together.
The idea is to offer an opportunity to meet others and talk about thoughts and feelings, and to share experiences and insights.
The group meets one evening per week, approximately 6–8 PM, at Folkets Hus in Rågsved or Bagarmossen. We plan for 5–6 sessions during the fall, starting in October. The group may continue into spring.
Important qualities are that you find it easy to build rapport and initiate conversations. You will agree with participants on the structure—for example, whether the group will have themes or topics to discuss at each meeting. The format can vary; one approach is using talking rounds where participants take turns speaking using a talking stick until the topic is exhausted.
Key responsibilities as a leader, beyond building connection and conversation, include encouraging participants to share through techniques such as active listening, direct encouragement, and reflection (see Rautalinko - Conversation Skills). You will also help affirm when needed so that those sharing feel their stories are being received.
Desirable: Knowledge of developmental psychology, attachment theory, developmental psychopathology, interpersonal psychology, or Malan's triangles.
Desirable: A college degree with a focus on human services, preferably with psychotherapy training.
Experience with personal mental health challenges is acceptable if it occurred some time ago and you have recovered.
Hourly wage
We review incoming applications on a rolling basis.
Open to all
We focus on your skills, not your other circumstances. We are open to adapting the role or workplace to meet your needs.
