Duties and Responsibilities Do you want to lead the development of tomorrow's automation solutions in an operation where technology, digitalization, and production are high on the agenda? As Automation Manager, you will have a key role in Alfa Laval's continued development. You are responsible for setting the strategic direction for the automation area while serving as senior technical expertise and leader for a team of automation engineers. The role combines long-term development with operational support to the business and involves close collaboration with production, maintenance, IT/OT, production engineering, and external partners. As a member of the technical management team, you are also expected to contribute with leadership and business support across departmental boundaries. You will serve as a natural backup to other technical managers and contribute to strong collaboration where the management team supports each other in day-to-day operations. You will contribute to strengthening the factory's competitiveness through the development of automation solutions related to, among other things, digitalization, Industry 4.0, AI-supported quality solutions, and connected production environments. An important part of the assignment is to ensure that automation contributes to increased availability, improved quality, and higher productivity in the business. Examples of Work Tasks Develop and implement a long-term roadmap and strategy for the automation area. Lead, coach, and develop the team of automation engineers and create clear guidelines, structure, prioritization, and working methods. Support the business in complex troubleshooting and serve as a technical sounding board within automation. Drive improvement, investment, and digitalization initiatives and coordinate external suppliers and automation partners. Work for increased operational reliability through root cause analysis, reduced production downtime, and improved availability of machines and equipment. Work closely with production, maintenance, production engineering, IT/OT, and international contact points within Alfa Laval. The role involves strategic and leadership responsibility, but also provides the opportunity to participate yourself in technical automation projects and development initiatives when needed. Your Profile This is a role for someone who thrives between technology, people, and business development. You have a strong technical foundation in industrial automation and feel confident making technical decisions while being motivated by developing both employees and working methods. To succeed, you need to be able to create direction and engagement in a competent and independent group without micromanaging. You thrive in a coaching leadership role where you build trust, develop people, and contribute to strong collaboration, both within your own team and with other leaders in the business. The role requires that you have Engineering degree or other relevant technical education. At least 5 years of experience in industrial automation within manufacturing industry. Several years of experience in digitalization within industrial operations. Experience in technical leadership or management. Knowledge of PLC systems. Fluent English in speech and writing. If you also have experience in strategic development work, investment calculations and business cases, as well as knowledge of AI, machine learning, SCADA/HMI-system platforms such as Siemens, Rockwell, and Beckhoff, we consider this as meriting.
