for one (1) SCIENTIFIC ASSISTANT position (full-time) for a fixed term of up to 36 months – aerospace technologies
We invite you to join our team as a scientific assistant/doctoral researcher in the field of space navigation, simulations, and embedded systems. The work involves both practical algorithm and system development as well as academic activities and international research.
Key Responsibilities:
Develop a high-precision virtual testing environment for validation and testing of space mission navigation systems.
Create and maintain space vehicle environment simulation models, including photorealistic representations of the Moon, Sun, stars, and other celestial objects.
Develop virtual sensor models and ensure their integration into the simulation environment.
Ensure real-time data exchange between the simulation environment and navigation algorithms.
Generate synthetic data for testing, validation, and performance evaluation of navigation systems.
Participate in the development, testing, and refinement of space mission simulation scenarios.
Perform verification, validation, and documentation of developed models and algorithms.
Conduct innovative and independent research work, developing new concepts or improving existing methodologies.
Perform scientific literature analysis, develop hypotheses, and plan experiments.
Independently acquire, adapt, and develop new tools, software, and research methods.
Present and publish research results to both academic and non-academic audiences.
Work independently while efficiently communicating progress achieved, challenges, and potential risks.
Function in international and interdisciplinary teams, and independently identify and resolve technical challenges.
Stay up-to-date with the latest scientific research, publications, and technology development trends in the relevant field.
Actively participate in project public information, communication, and knowledge dissemination activities.
The aforementioned job description is not exhaustive. Additional tasks that are substantively consistent with the stated responsibilities may be assigned to the scientific assistant.
Adhere to RTU doctoral study criteria.
Publish research in scientific journals (Q1/Q2).
Publish and present work at international conferences indexed in SCOPUS.
Actively participate in RTU Aeronautics and Space Technology academic group with high-quality research.
Requirements for Candidates:
Master's degree in aircraft and aerospace vehicle design or a related field.
Initiated or planned doctoral studies in accordance with RTU requirements.
Experience in research or technical project development.
Ability to independently solve complex technical problems and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
Experience working in interdisciplinary and international teams.
Excellent English language skills for scientific work.

Candidates wishing to participate in the competition must submit electronically (signed with a secure electronic signature) to the email ([email protected]) at Riga Technical University's Department of Human and Organizational Development:
• An application addressed to the Rector regarding participation in the competition;
• A curriculum vitae indicating scientific, pedagogical, and organizational work experience and a list of published works from the last 6 (six) years (a separate list of published works should preferably be attached as an appendix), as well as any other documents the candidate wishes to attach to the application to better characterize their qualifications;
• Copies of documents confirming scientific/academic degrees or higher education and, if necessary, other documents specified in the applicable regulations (for example, documents confirming state language proficiency level, etc.), presenting their originals if the candidate is participating in the competition at RTU for the first time and has not previously submitted these document copies to the Department of Human and Organizational Development;
• A public presentation of their scientific activities, to be presented to the structural unit (or council/committee) in a timely manner before selection.

The competition period is two months from the date of publication of the announcement on the State Employment Agency website and the National Scientific Activities Information System.
