No. 90000068977 announces a competition for vacant scientific staff positions: FACULTY OF CIVIL ENGINEERING AND MECHANICAL ENGINEERING Institute of Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Technologies and Transport for one (1) SCIENTIFIC ASSISTANT position (full-time) for a fixed term of up to 18 months – aerospace technologies We invite scientific assistants/doctoral researchers to join our team in the field of space navigation, simulations, and embedded systems. The work includes both practical algorithm and system development as well as academic activities and international research. Key Responsibilities • Algorithm development and testing – develop a complete (end-to-end) photorealistic navigation simulation in a PC environment. • Develop and optimize navigation, orbit propagation, triangulation, and attitude determination algorithms. • Perform celestial object position calculations, predictions, and transformations in spacecraft coordinate systems, integrating data for accurate state estimation. • Simulation result execution and verification – perform dual verification using both embedded hardware and PC versions to reduce error risk during mission execution. • Develop embedded system solutions – microcontroller (MCU) algorithms and FPGA-based image processing for object recognition, position determination, and classification. • Ensure algorithm and system verification by comparing PC simulation results with embedded system results, and identify and eliminate errors. • Blueprint creation – develop reusable simulation architecture models that can serve as a foundation for future deep space navigation systems with unconventional propulsion technologies. • Conduct independent scientific research, analyze literature, develop hypotheses, and plan experiments. • Follow RTU doctoral study requirements. • Prepare and publish scientific publications in international (SCOPUS indexed, Q1/Q2) journals, and present research results at conferences. • Communicate project results in professional written English and prepare scientific reports. • Actively participate in RTU's Aeronautics and Space Technology academic group with high-quality research. • Participate in research and development projects, their management, and funding management. • Assist professors or researchers in research, publications, and preparation. • Actively participate in academic, innovation, and community engagement activities, and collaborate in international and interdisciplinary teams. • Regularly follow industry scientific literature and technology development. • Perform other duties related to the position and projects. Requirements for Candidates • Master's degree in electrical engineering and space systems engineering or a related field. • Initiated or planned doctoral studies in accordance with RTU requirements. • Experience in research or technical project development. • Ability to independently solve complex technical problems and work on multiple tasks simultaneously. • Experience working in interdisciplinary and international teams. • Excellent English language proficiency for scientific work and international research. Candidates wishing to participate in the competition must submit electronically (signed with a secure electronic signature) to Riga Technical University's Department of Human and Organizational Development at ([email protected]): • An application addressed to the rector regarding participation in the competition; • Curriculum Vitae indicating scientific, pedagogical, organizational work experience and a list of published works from the last 6 (six) years (preferably submitting the list of published works as a separate attachment), as well as any other documents the candidate wishes to attach to provide a more complete description of their qualifications; • Copies of documents confirming scientific/academic degrees or higher education, and if necessary, other documents specified in regulatory acts (for example, documents confirming state language proficiency level, etc.), presenting their originals if the candidate is participating in a competition for work at RTU for the first time and has not previously submitted copies of these documents to the Department of Human and Organizational Development; • A public presentation on their scientific activities, to be presented to the structural unit (or council/board) in a timely manner before election. The competition deadline is one month from the date of publication of the announcement on the State Employment Agency website and in the National Scientific Activity Information System.
