The Department of Language Studies at the Faculty of Humanities at Umeå University conducts education and research in languages, literature, and language didactics in Swedish, English, Finnish, French, Italian, Linguistics, Meänkieli, Russian, Sámi, Spanish, and German. We are now recruiting a substitute university lecturer in North Sámi at 50% with start date January 1, 2027. The employment is time-limited until December 30, 2028. Description of Work Tasks The position includes teaching at the introductory level in North Sámi and pedagogical development work. In addition to teaching, the position includes teaching-related administration as well as personnel, subject, and planning meetings. Teaching is conducted online. The employee is expected to be able to teach in North Sámi, Swedish or another Scandinavian language, and English. Professional development corresponding to 10% of the employment is included. Qualifications To be eligible for employment as a university lecturer in North Sámi, you must have a degree at the master's level in a relevant subject area for the position, or have other professional competence that is significant with regard to the subject content and work tasks of the position. A degree at the bachelor's level minimum in North Sámi is a requirement for the position. Very good language skills in North Sámi, good skills in Swedish or another Scandinavian language, and good skills in English are requirements for the position. Assessment Criteria Assessment criteria for the selection include: experience teaching North Sámi at the university level or in upper secondary school, experience with online teaching, experience with development work, especially in creating and developing interactive resources, and administrative competence. The assessment criteria also include good collaborative abilities and the competence and suitability otherwise needed to perform the work tasks well. Weighting of Assessment Criteria Particular weight shall be given to experience teaching North Sámi at the university level or in upper secondary school and experience with online teaching. Great weight shall be given to experience with development work, especially documented ability to develop, create, and maintain interactive resources. Administrative competence and good collaborative abilities, as well as the competence and suitability otherwise needed to perform the work tasks well, shall be weighted in the assessment.
