About the Workplace
The Children and Education Department's responsibilities include preschool, primary school, adapted primary school, secondary school, adult education, KAA (municipal activity responsibility), and music school. Within these operations, approximately 500 staff members work together to serve about 2,500 children and students.
The management organization currently consists of a department director, two operations managers, 16 principals, and a department staff. Based on changes in the management organization, we are now recruiting an Operations Manager/Staff Manager to be based at the school office and reporting to the School Director.
About the Position
The position comprises two parts: operations manager and staff manager. The operations manager responsibilities include secondary school, adapted secondary school, adult education, KAA (municipal activity responsibility), youth residential services, child and student health services, and music school. You will lead three principals and three unit managers. As staff manager, you are responsible for, among other things, the school office/staff employees and coordinating the school office's work.
Your main duties include:
lead, develop, and support your employees through trust-based leadership.
work strategically with operational quality, authority exercise, and efficiency.
coordinate, prepare, and present matters to the committee, which includes investigation and presentation to politicians and, when necessary, to other groups.
project and change management, which means leading major development and change projects across the department and driving cross-functional initiatives while ensuring effective project implementation.
You report directly to the School Director and are part of the department management, whose mission is to create conditions for all our operations with a focus on children and students' learning and development, and to enable the flow in the support and governance chain where the relationship between politics and operations is particularly important. Within department management, there is close collaboration between the department director and operations managers, with the staff's other functions providing support.
Qualifications
We are looking for someone with principal training or other education/experience that the employer considers equivalent. Furthermore, you should have experience with systematic quality and development work focused on results and goal achievement. We also see that you have experience working at management level in a politically governed organization and are familiar with how municipalities function. You are a confident and courageous leader who applies trust-based leadership and has strong ability to lead change and development work.
You also have good insight into the school system's governing documents and can lead according to school law, curricula, regulations, and municipal goals and guidelines.
You have high digital competence with experience creating process maps. You are experienced in leading different professions, conducting investigations, and creating guidelines and procedures.
To fit the role, you are a person with analytical ability and a holistic view who can inspire and engage others. You have good communication skills and see the value in collaborating and building good relationships. You also have good structure in your work, but can adapt to changed circumstances and needs.
