Water issues are increasingly coming into focus in urban planning, preparedness and permits, and water is a prioritized area for the future. The County Administrative Board is a regional state authority with approximately 1,000 friendly and competent employees. We have operations at several locations in Västra Götaland but also in the rest of Sweden since we are responsible for IT operations for all county administrative boards. About the job Are you drawn to working as a water management officer within water management and contributing to public benefit? Do you have a grip on water environment quality standards (MKN) and experience with environmental contaminants? Do you also enjoy handling complex issues together with colleagues? Then maybe you are our new water officer at the Preparatory Secretariat! Your main duties are to: Work in our preparatory secretariat to assess the chemical and ecological status of water and develop action proposals to achieve environmental quality standards. Provide support in processing cases under the Environmental Code regarding the assessment of environmental quality standards according to water management. Work with environmental contaminants within the framework of water management in accordance with the EU Water Directive. This includes mapping and analysis of environmental contaminants in lakes, watercourses and coastal areas in the county. Cooperate with external contacts such as municipalities, water councils, other county administrative boards, national authorities, business operators and consultants. Work with environmental monitoring in water as part of regional environmental monitoring. There is an opportunity for seasonal field work with sampling. The position includes travel, primarily within the county. You will be part of the Nature and Water Department, which has approximately 205 employees who work together for a better water environment and safe water supply, the establishment of nature reserves and management of nature, and the handling of measures for both water and nature. The water environment function is a pleasant group of about 20 employees. In the function we work with the EU's various water directives, our water-related environmental goals, environmental monitoring and water improvement measures. The function's employees are located in Gothenburg, Vänersborg and Mariestad. We are constantly developing our operations and you therefore need to be open to your work tasks potentially changing over time. Placement location is Gothenburg, Mariestad or Vänersborg. About you We are looking for someone who finds it easy to collaborate with a humble attitude while being goal-oriented and completing your assignments on time. It comes naturally to you to work both independently and together with colleagues. With your analytical skills, you can have a holistic perspective but still handle important details at the right level. We also see that you need the ability to prioritize between work tasks and have a structured working style. In meetings with different groups and people, you can build relationships and be communicative, and you can adapt your messages to different target groups, both verbally and in writing. You have (requirements): Natural science/technical university education in environmental science, ecotoxicology or education that we consider equivalent. You express yourself well verbally and in writing. Category B driver's license. Knowledge of processing and analysis of environmental contaminant data. We would like you to have (merits): Experience working with water management according to the EU Water Directive. Knowledge in GIS and working with and analyzing large data sets in Excel or Power BI. Experience with case handling under the Environmental Code. Experience with environmental monitoring of environmental contaminants in water, biota or sediment.
