Description
As a Water Management Officer, you have an important role in protecting and managing our water resources. This means you are responsible for oversight and approval of water activities and shoreline protection matters under the Environmental Code – a task that requires both analytical skills and collaborative spirit. In this role, you have the opportunity to make a difference, both for the environment and for society. You will be part of the Environmental Review Unit, and we have approximately 15 colleagues in the unit.
Work Tasks
Your responsibilities span a broad spectrum:
Investigate and assess how various activities affect aquatic environments, from small-scale projects such as private jetties to larger initiatives like wetlands, submarine cables or road culverts.
Work with oversight and approval of water activities, ensuring that legislation, environmental quality standards and environmental goals are followed.
Respond to referrals and collaborate with other units within the authority and external stakeholders, where your knowledge contributes to sustainable solutions in, for example, planning matters.
Most of the work is done at the computer and in collaboration with colleagues, where you investigate, assess and make decisions on various matters. Sometimes there is an opportunity to go out in the field, particularly in oversight matters.
As a Water Management Officer, you work independently and are responsible for your own cases. At the same time, you are part of a team where you discuss and make assessments together. You work closely with both colleagues and external stakeholders, with good conditions to develop in your role.
Qualifications
We are looking for someone with a bachelor's or master's degree in limnology, marine biology, hydrology, water management or law with an environmental law focus. Alternatively, other education or experience that we consider equivalent.
In this role, you will have many contacts with private individuals, companies, municipalities and organizations. You should have a good ability to communicate both verbally and in writing in Swedish. This also requires providing good service and a positive approach to the people and actors you come into contact with.
To succeed in this assignment, you need to be curious and have the ability to work independently. You dare to tackle and solve new assignments and tasks both on your own and in collaboration with colleagues. You take responsibility for your work tasks and drive processes forward toward set goals. It is important that you can plan, structure and prioritize work in an efficient way and that you meet deadlines. Since you are part of a work group, good collaboration skills are required. We consider it self-evident that you contribute to a good work environment.
You will face many challenging and interesting problems, which requires analytical skills and the ability to find solutions, as well as the ability to make assessments and weigh complex information and different types of considerations.
It is advantageous to have experience with government authority work and oversight and approval under the Environmental Code. It is also advantageous to have experience working with oversight and approval within water activities and shoreline protection, and if you hold a B driving license.
The position will be adapted as much as possible to your competence, based on the needs of the operations.
