Are you a confident and development-oriented leader who wants to make a real difference in people's quality of life? We are now seeking a Director of Care and Elderly Services who wants to take overall responsibility for developing the future of care and elderly services in Sala Municipality. In this role, you will lead through managers, drive strategic development initiatives, and create good conditions for both employees and the people who depend on our operations. About the Workplace Sala Municipality is a reasonably sized municipality – complex enough to give you exciting challenges, but at the same time so close and personal that you see the results of your work without having to search through reports. We are responsible for important public services including education, care and elderly services, emergency services, environmental and health protection, as well as public infrastructure operations. Within the care and elderly services area, approximately 790 people work. As Director of Care and Elderly Services, you are responsible for ensuring that operations run efficiently and that service users receive the help and care they need. This means leading and developing personnel, planning and monitoring operational goals, and ensuring that finances remain balanced. The work also involves ensuring that laws, guidelines, and quality requirements are followed while adapting operations to changing needs. You frequently collaborate with other stakeholders, such as government agencies, politicians, labor unions, and unit managers, to create safe and sustainable care and elderly services. Job Responsibilities You have overall responsibility for leading, developing, and monitoring the municipality's operations within elderly care, services for people with disabilities, and municipal health and medical services. The role involves driving work toward established goals and visions while ensuring that operations are conducted with high quality, good legal certainty, and efficient resource utilization within given financial frameworks. Through your work, you contribute to ensuring that the municipality's residents receive the support, care, and services they need while operations develop in line with future needs. You manage operations through your subordinate managers and play a central role in creating conditions for good leadership, a positive work environment, and a culture where development, collaboration, and improvement work are a natural part of daily operations. The assignment involves supporting and coaching managers within services for people with disabilities, home care, special housing for the elderly, and health and medical services. You balance strategic perspectives with operational daily challenges and drive change and development work that takes advantage of employees' competence and commitment. The role involves close collaboration with political representatives in the care and elderly services committee, management, and labor organizations. You are responsible for analyzing operational conditions and challenges, preparing decision-making materials, and implementing political decisions into concrete results. The assignment also includes ensuring that operations are conducted in accordance with legislation, governing documents, and political goals and that the office's work is characterized by Sala Municipality's values: simple, efficient, and citizen-friendly. You report to the Chair of the Elderly and Care Services Committee and are part of the municipality's management group, where you, together with other managers, contribute to the municipality's long-term development. As a representative of Sala Municipality, you also collaborate with government agencies, organizations, businesses, and other external stakeholders. This is a role for you if you want to combine strategic leadership with an operations-focused assignment and are motivated by developing welfare and creating the best possible conditions for people to live a safe and independent life. Qualifications We are looking for a confident and development-oriented leader who wants to take a central role in driving and developing the Care and Elderly Services Office's operations. You are a stable manager who creates clarity, direction, and engagement even in complex situations, and you see change as a natural part of operational development. With present and trust-based leadership, you build strong teams, promote a good work environment, and create conditions for employee-driven development, quality, and efficiency in operations. The assignment involves leading a broad and socially important operation where you balance long-term strategic development with operational daily needs. You thrive in a changing environment and see opportunities in developing working methods, strengthening collaboration, and using digitalization as a tool to achieve operational goals. The role requires good structure, financial understanding, and the ability to make well-founded decisions, even when conditions change or challenges are significant. To succeed in the role, you have relevant university education in care and elderly services or equivalent, as well as experience in leadership and change management. It is meritorious if you have led managers, been responsible for broad operations, and worked in a politically governed organization. A class B driver's license is desirable as operations are conducted at several locations within the municipality. You have good communication skills and feel confident in dialogue with politicians, officials, residents, and media. Above all, we are looking for a leader who, with courage, collaborative ability, holistic perspective, and a strong development focus, can drive care and elderly services operations forward with sustainable results. Employment Terms Indefinite term, full-time Start date by agreement Individual salary setting The position may be placed in security classification Location in Sala, with the municipality as your main workplace Possibility of remote work two days per week where operations permit Wellness allowance and good opportunities for a sustainable work life.
