The Swedish Agency for Marine and Water Management (HaV) drives and coordinates work for living seas, lakes, and waterways on behalf of the government, now and for future generations. The Water Resources Management Department is responsible for ecosystem-based management in freshwater environments as well as for biodiversity, area protection, coordination of measures, and environmental assessment in freshwater, coastal, and marine environments. We work closely with other departments within the agency and with external stakeholders, with a clear focus on working with a holistic perspective and ecosystem-based management from source to sea. The Environmental Assessment Unit is responsible for environmental assessment and supervisory guidance to protect Sweden's ecosystems in water and marine environments. We are 17 people who also work on current issues such as green transition and environmentally friendly energy. We are looking for a dedicated employee to join our team working with water activities under the Environmental Code – a role where you will have the opportunity to influence how the water environment is managed and protected for the future. As an employee in water activities, you will work with permit processes, environmental assessments, and coordination of activities that affect water. You will have a key role in ensuring that water activities are carried out in accordance with legislation and environmental goals, while also contributing to society's needs for, for example, energy, industry, or infrastructure. Key Responsibilities Your main responsibilities will include: handling permit applications and environmental assessments of water activities under the Environmental Code and regulations investigating and assessing the impact on the water environment from activities such as hydropower, dams, or water extraction (for example, by applying environmental quality standards for water) analyzing documentation from operators on environmental impact and formulating conditions coordinating with authorities (such as county administrative boards, other central agencies) and operators You will also participate in other tasks of the unit as needed. Qualifications We are looking for someone who has: a master's degree or equivalent higher education with a natural science or technical orientation 5 years of work experience that includes practical experience of how regulations and requirements are used in permit assessments and applications good knowledge of Swedish water management and experience in assessment and supervision of water activities or environmentally hazardous operations good ability to express yourself in both speech and writing in Swedish and English We consider the following as merits: experience assessing the effects of water activities on biology and/or hydrology experience working on hydropower issues, including permit processes, environmental impact, and cooperation with hydropower companies/authorities knowledge of hydropower's role in energy and ecosystems, measures (such as fish passage solutions), and re-examination of old permits It is an advantage if you have experience working on hydropower issues, including permit processes, environmental impact, and cooperation with hydropower companies and authorities. Experience in coordination between stakeholders, technical understanding of hydropower installations, and knowledge of the Swedish Agency for Marine and Water Management's work are also desirable. We are looking for someone who is structured, self-directed, and has analytical ability. You build relationships and enjoy working in close cooperation with others. In your role as a specialist, we find it important that you can quickly grasp complex issues and have a willingness to continuously develop. Furthermore, we see the ability to prioritize and deliver well-reasoned documentation as an important quality. Terms and Conditions The salary range for the position is between 47,000 - 55,000 SEK/month and is based on proficiency in relation to competence relevant to the position. The employment is permanent and full-time, and a probationary period may be applied. Start as soon as possible by agreement. The starting point is that the work normally takes place in the agency's premises; however, employees may, by agreement with the unit manager, work a maximum of two days of full-time employment or work time equivalent to two days per week remotely.
