Your Tasks Within the Thin Film Physics Division, there are several units where the Materials Optics unit specifically conducts undergraduate education, research, and research training related to materials physics with an emphasis on optical properties and applications. The responsibilities of this position include teaching, research, and administrative duties. As a University Lecturer in Materials Optics, you will teach at both undergraduate and advanced levels, primarily in Swedish but also in English. The teaching covers various areas of physics but is largely focused on courses in fundamental and advanced optics. The work encompasses all aspects of teaching including course design and course responsibility. You will also supervise students' thesis projects in these areas. The unit's research is both theoretical and experimental with a significant focus on polarization optics. Your research is expected to be conducted independently and requires extensive knowledge of optical theory as well as skill in performing detailed optical measurements. Through modeling, simulation, and experimental studies, optical characterization is performed on both homogeneous and nanostructured materials. The main optical methods are polarization-based techniques such as spectroscopic polarimetry and spectroscopic (Stokes/Mueller) ellipsometry. Other optical methods such as spectrophotometry and scatterometry are also relevant. The position includes responsibility for a research laboratory, including maintenance and calibration of optical measuring instruments, upkeep of the laboratory environment, and training and support for laboratory users. You are active within the research community, participate in division activities such as seminars and workshops, participate in research projects, communicate results through scientific publications, and contribute to attracting external research funding. You actively contribute to the university's development work. For example, we see that you are interested in and willing to take on management responsibilities. The position may also involve administrative tasks, such as organizing cross-institutional infrastructure. In your work, you keep up with developments nationally and internationally within your field and with societal developments that are relevant to your work. You are flexible and able to move between different types of pedagogical and scientific contexts. You share your knowledge and contribute to your work group's professional development, collegial working methods, and social community. We consider it self-evident that you are present and active in order to perform your duties to the best of your ability and thrive in the work community. Your Qualifications We are looking for you who have a doctoral degree or equivalent scientific competence, and have demonstrated pedagogical skill or other professional skill that is of importance given the subject content and tasks of the position. For this position, equal weight will be placed on scientific and pedagogical skill. Regarding pedagogical skill, the following will be assessed: Requirement for the position: Documented experience of course responsibility and teaching at both undergraduate and advanced levels in physics (primarily optics) in higher education. Particularly meritorious: Documented ability in course design and course development. Particularly meritorious: Experience in supervising thesis projects in materials science with a focus on optical characterization. Meritorious: Documented education in higher education pedagogy. Regarding scientific skill, the following will be assessed: Requirement for the position: A doctoral degree with a clear focus on materials optics. Solid knowledge of polarization optics and optical characterization of materials, including structured materials. Particularly meritorious: Docent competence and documented practical and theoretical skills in matrix descriptions of polarized light and polarization. Meritorious: Documented experience of responsibility for a research laboratory with optical measuring instruments. Particularly meritorious for the position is also: Documented skill in collaboration within education. Other skills and qualities that will be assessed for this position are: Good collaboration skills and ability to contribute to the division's development, collegial working methods, and social community. A structured working method, through the ability to plan, organize, and prioritize work efficiently. Good ability to create and maintain good relationships with colleagues and students in scientific and pedagogical activities. Since teaching and/or research takes place in both Swedish and English, you must be able to demonstrate the ability to teach and/or conduct research in both Swedish and English.
