The Unit for Speech-Language Pathology at the Section for Health and Rehabilitation has a major undergraduate education mission with responsibility for a four-year undergraduate program in speech-language pathology. The unit also offers advanced-level courses and conducts research within the field of speech-language pathology. The unit consists of approximately 15 teachers and researchers and six doctoral students. All are engaged in teaching on the speech-language pathology program and in supervising work at the undergraduate, advanced, and doctoral levels. Research focuses on both developmental and acquired communication disorders. The unit also has a mission from the National Board of Health and Welfare to conduct competency tests for speech-language pathologists from countries outside the EU who are seeking Swedish licensure. Subject Speech-Language Pathology Subject Description Speech-language pathology is defined as the study of language, voice, speech, and swallowing disorders and their treatment. Speech-language pathology as a subject discipline describes and explains various forms of communication difficulties due to language, voice, or speech disorders, how they should be assessed and treated, and their consequences for human personality, health, and quality of life. Teaching and research within the scope of the position shall focus on developmental speech and language disorders and thereby complement and strengthen existing activities at the unit for speech-language pathology. Duties The duties primarily involve responsibility for teaching at the undergraduate and advanced levels in the area of developmental speech and language disorders. This also includes teaching in standalone courses as well as supervision of work at the undergraduate, advanced, and research levels within the field. The applicant's professional experience shall be applied in relevant teaching situations. The position includes course coordination, course planning, examinations, administration, and keeping up with developments in the field. The position also includes conducting research within the subject area and seeking external research funding. Management duties may be included. Qualifications Qualifications for employment as a teacher are regulated in Chapter 4 of the Higher Education Ordinance and the University of Gothenburg's employment regulations. For eligibility, a doctoral degree, demonstrated teaching ability, and Swedish speech-language pathology licensure are required. The ability to teach in both Swedish and English is a requirement.
