At the Department of Cultural Heritage, profession-oriented education and research are conducted focusing on cultural heritage issues, landscapes and cultural environments, buildings, gardens, and objects. The Department operates at two locations; Gothenburg and Mariestad. In Gothenburg, conservators and building antiquarians are trained. In Mariestad, education is provided in building crafts as well as garden crafts and landscape management. For more information, see www.conservation.gu.se Job Responsibilities Teaching duties consist of planning, developing, and delivering instruction at undergraduate and advanced levels in conservation, with particular focus on organic materials and preventive conservation in the conservator program. Teaching at the research level and commissioned education may also occur, as well as teaching in other programs and courses at the Department. Teaching takes place in both Swedish and English. As a teacher, you are expected to actively participate in the Department's research environments and seminar activities and independently and in collaboration with others, initiate and conduct research projects. Since externally funded research is an important prerequisite for the Department's and individual teachers' research activities, it is part of your responsibilities to actively contribute to the Department's work in securing external funding. You are expected to contribute to developing collaboration with the surrounding national and international community and contribute to the development of the environment. The position also involves fulfilling administrative tasks and participating in work related to university-wide responsibilities. Qualifications Eligible for employment is someone who has completed a doctoral degree in cultural heritage or another relevant subject area that is significant given the position's subject content and work tasks, and who has demonstrated pedagogical skill. Experience in practical conservation work on objects in various types of materials and/or preventive conservation is considered meritorious. Applicants must have completed 15 higher education credits in university pedagogy or equivalent. If the applicant has not completed university pedagogy education, it is expected to be completed within one year of employment start. The official language at Gothenburg University is Swedish, and teaching typically takes place in Swedish at the bachelor level and in English at the master level. Strong language skills and ability to teach in English are required. Applicants who do not speak Swedish at the time of employment will be given the opportunity to study Swedish during their employment to be able to teach in Swedish within two years. If the employed person is internationally recruited and does not possess knowledge of Swedish at least at level B2 according to CEFR, Swedish language courses will be mandatory. Gothenburg University offers Swedish courses as part of the employment. Evaluation Criteria In evaluating applicants, equal weight will be given to scientific and pedagogical skill. Weight is also placed on experience in professional cultural heritage practice and experience of collaboration between the university and the surrounding community. In assessing scientific skill, publications of high scientific quality will be primarily considered. In addition, documented ability to initiate, plan, and conduct research, experience of international work, and ability to obtain research funding in competition will be given weight. Pedagogical skill must be well documented. Particular weight shall be placed on experience in planning and implementing instruction. Supervision at undergraduate, advanced, and research education levels is meritorious. Professional practice and experience of collaboration must be well documented.
