Learn more about us at: kau.se/jobb Description Political Science at Karlstad University offers education at undergraduate, advanced and doctoral levels. We are responsible for the political science program, the master's program in political science, the master's program with a focus on disinformation, and provide a broad range of standalone courses. Political Science also participates in several other educational programs at the university. The subject is characterized by a close link between research and education and by strong engagement with current societal issues. Research includes critical policy studies, public governance and administration, democracy and political participation, environmental and climate policy, international relations, security and risk, and European studies. These research areas also form an important foundation for our teaching. Responsibilities The primary responsibilities are teaching, supervision and examination in political science at the undergraduate and advanced levels. Teaching takes place mainly in Swedish but also in English. The responsibilities include both program courses and standalone courses. The position also includes course planning, course development, pedagogical development work and administrative tasks related to education. To contribute to a good working environment and development of operations, you are present and actively participate in the daily work and the collegial community of the field. Qualifications To be eligible for employment as a university lecturer, you must have at least a degree of 180 credits in political science or have otherwise acquired equivalent knowledge, as well as have other competence that is significant in relation to the subject focus of the position and the work tasks included in the employment. The position also requires documented proficiency in teaching in Swedish and English. Additional qualification requirements according to the employment regulations are: good subject knowledge teaching ability Teachers must also have completed higher education pedagogy training. If such training is lacking, employment may still take place provided that the employee commits to completing the training as part of the competence development period during the first two years of employment. All employees at Karlstad University must also have good ability to collaborate and treat colleagues and students with respect. Experience in teaching, supervision and examination in political science at university level. Experience in planning, implementation and development of courses at university level. Experience in supervising independent work. Personal qualities such as good collaboration skills, ability to work in a structured and independent manner, good communication skills and good judgment. Of Great Importance Broad subject knowledge within political science. Experience in teaching in digital learning environments and/or distance education as well as pedagogical development in digital learning environments. Of Importance Experience in teaching in areas such as public administration, democracy, environmental and climate policy, international relations, security, risk or policy studies. Experience in teaching with a focus on political theory. Meritorious Ongoing or completed doctoral studies in political science or related field. Experience in own research and scientific publishing. Pedagogical credentials or pedagogical awards. Conditions The position is a permanent full-time employment starting February 1st or by agreement. A probationary period may be applied.
