The Faculty of Technology is one of Linnaeus University's five faculties. We bring together the university's education and research in technical subjects. Operations are organized into eight departments and a faculty office. Here you will also find Linnaeus University Centre DISA and two Linnaeus Knowledge Environments: Green Sustainable Development and Digital Transformations. Several of the faculty's research groups collaborate within the strength area Forest Values. The Department of Forest and Wood Technology conducts education and research within a broad scientific field, from forest to finished product and development of new wood-based products and materials from the forest. Teaching takes place at undergraduate and advanced levels, and research is conducted within many disciplines such as forest management, forest economics, forest ecology, forest climate benefits, and wood science. Since Linnaeus University has locations in both Växjö and Kalmar, travel between the cities may occur. Employment scope: 100%, permanent. Start date: Start date by agreement. In normal cases, a probationary employment period applies. Job Description: The Department of Forest and Wood Technology conducts extensive education in forestry with high demand and large student groups. To meet the needs of the operation, additional teaching expertise is required. The position primarily involves work in undergraduate education, where teaching, supervision, course responsibility, and course development are the main tasks. Teaching is planned based on the applicant's competence and may cover several subject areas within forestry management, such as forest management, forest ecology, forest assessment, nature conservation, and soil science. Teaching may also cover scientific methodology. The competence should have a clear connection to the research conducted at the department, with a focus on sustainable development and forest climate benefits. The ambition is for the department's lecturers to have the opportunity to participate in research activities as part of their professional development and within the scope of a portion of their employment. The connection between theory and practice is a central part of our education. It is therefore a prerequisite that the applicant has knowledge of, understanding of, and skills in the basic forestry subject areas. A large portion of teaching is conducted through a distance-based format that is complemented with excursions and in-person meetings with practical elements, where the forest and forest industry serve as important learning environments. The position involves extensive contact with students as well as collaboration with colleagues and industry representatives. Active participation in the department's internal and external activities is expected. Good collaborative skills and flexibility are of great importance, both in relation to students and in cooperation within work teams and research environments. A teacher's duties also include following developments within their own subject area and societal developments in general that are relevant to the teacher's work at the university. Qualifications To be eligible for employment as a University Lecturer at Linnaeus University, an applicant must have a Master's degree in Forest and Wood Technology or equivalent competence, and have demonstrated teaching skills. Equivalent competence is normally understood to mean a degree from a foreign university with essentially the same level and quality as a Swedish Master's degree in Forest and Wood Technology. In addition to demonstrated teaching skills, the applicant must have completed higher education pedagogy training or be assessed as having equivalent skills. Furthermore, the following are required for eligibility for this position: Experience teaching in at least two of the following areas: Forest Management, Forest Ecology, Forest Assessment, Nature Conservation, Soil Science, Scientific Methodology. Experience supervising thesis projects at the undergraduate or advanced level. Evaluation Criteria When employing a University Lecturer, the degree of skill that is a requirement for eligibility for employment shall apply. • Experience teaching in the field of forestry management. • Experience teaching practical elements in forestry management. • Documented ability to supervise students in both quantitative and qualitative methods. • Ability to teach in both distance and hybrid formats as well as campus-based education. • Documented good collaborative skills. When the university hires new teachers, applicants shall be selected based on a qualitative overall assessment of who are deemed to have the best prerequisites to carry out and develop current tasks and contribute to successful development of the operation.
