More information about our activities can be found on our website: Faculty of Law Position Description The Faculty of Law is seeking a Lecturer in Legal Science for teaching primarily in the Faculty's professionally oriented programs. We are looking for someone with particular expertise in constitutional law (Swedish constitutional law, the European Convention on Human Rights, and the constitutional aspects of EU law), EU law with a focus on the internal market, or international law and human rights, preferably with expertise in multiple areas. Depending on your expertise and current needs, teaching may cover courses in the law degree program and independent courses, as well as other areas of law where there may be a need. This is a full-time temporary employment position starting October 1, 2026 or by agreement, extending through June 30, 2027 at the latest. Main Responsibilities The primary responsibilities consist of teaching at undergraduate and advanced levels and associated administration. The Faculty uses problem-based learning that builds on students' active participation in, for example, seminars and realistic role-playing exercises based on future professional practice. In addition to leading seminars and exercises, teaching includes supervision and lectures. The responsibilities also include staying informed about developments in the subject area and broader societal developments relevant to the work. Qualification Requirements According to employment regulations for teachers at Umeå University, to be eligible for appointment as a Lecturer, one must hold a degree at least at the master's level or possess other professional expertise relevant to the subject matter and tasks involved in the position. For this position, a law degree or equivalent and in-depth theoretical or practical professional expertise in the subject area are required. Eligibility requires the ability to teach in Swedish and English. Evaluation Criteria and Weighting The evaluation criteria for this position are, in the first instance, the degree of professional expertise required for the position, followed by pedagogical skill, then administrative skill and collaboration ability. When evaluating professional expertise, particular weight is placed on in-depth theoretical knowledge demonstrated through a doctoral dissertation or research articles, or experience in practical legal professional practice and experience in the areas covered by this recruitment. Considerable weight is placed on both broad and in-depth professional expertise in several of the areas covered by the recruitment, which enables teaching in multiple courses and at different levels. Great importance is placed on pedagogical skill demonstrated through experience in teaching on a scientific basis or in training working professionals within the professions relevant to the Faculty's teaching mission. Weight is also given to the ability to express oneself in speech and writing in Swedish and English. Weight is placed on demonstrated administrative skill and collaboration ability. The Faculty of Law's teaching model is based on teamwork among teachers, and experience in working in teaching teams or similar is a merit for the position. Since teaching is conducted in teacher teams where educators with different expertise and experience participate, the position also places high demands on personal suitability and respect for the knowledge and experience of other individuals and professional categories. An important part of the work is being part of building the environment at the Faculty. Experience with assignments and experience in supporting more junior colleagues is therefore a merit.
