The Department of Communication, Quality Technology and Information Systems operates on both Campus Östersund and Campus Sundsvall. The department conducts education and research in subjects within Communication, Quality Technology and Information Systems. Duties This temporary position includes teaching, supervision and examination in practical and theoretical courses in media and communication science within the Journalism Program as well as the Communication and PR Program. Teaching responsibilities include course coordination, course development, and administration related to these tasks. Teaching takes place both on campus and online. The position also involves participating in ongoing research projects on local journalism and disinformation. Candidates are expected to actively participate in the teaching and research community. Qualifications Applicants for a University Lecturer position must meet the requirements described in Mid Sweden University's employment regulations. To be eligible as a University Lecturer, you must have at least 180 higher education credits, including at least 90 credits in journalism or media and communication science, or equivalent competence. A completed bachelor's degree in journalism, media and communication science, or a closely related field, as well as formal education in higher education pedagogy are merits. It is also meritorious to have doctoral-level training in media and communication science or experience with research projects in the field. Assessment Criteria When hiring a University Lecturer, the assessment is based on the degree of competence required for the position. The evaluation of pedagogical skills shall receive equal attention as the evaluation of other qualification-related requirements. For this position, the following assessment criteria apply: Relevant subject knowledge for the position's content and work tasks. Experience teaching journalism and media and communication science within scientific theory and method, particularly quantitative methods. Ability to conduct and develop teaching and pedagogical activities based on research in higher education pedagogy. Education in higher education pedagogy. Experience lecturing, planning and delivering workshops and seminars. Theoretical knowledge related to courses in areas such as journalism's production conditions, media systems and disinformation. Research experience and involvement in research projects within subject areas relevant to this position, particularly experience with international collaboration in journalism or journalism research, as internationalization is a prioritized area within these programs. Education in and experience with academic writing. Experience supervising at the master's level. Completed or ongoing doctoral education in Media and Communication Science. Personal Qualities Special attention will be given to collaboration skills and how the applicant, through their experience and competence, is assessed to complement and strengthen the department and its future development, as well as the ability to take initiative in activities that strengthen the educational and research environment. The applicant should also have the ability to plan, organize and prioritize work efficiently. The person should be self-directed and take responsibility for their tasks, and organize their own work. The applicant also needs to be flexible and able to adapt to varied work tasks. Other Assessment Criteria Very good oral and written proficiency in Swedish and English. The main working language is Swedish, but teaching in English may be included. Experience working with digital teaching tools such as learning management systems and online meeting tools.
