The Department of Economic History is research-intensive and employs approximately 70 people: researchers, teachers, technical/administrative staff, and doctoral students. The department offers extensive doctoral training and coordinates two international master's programs. The department has an established reputation for broad research with emphasis on long-term processes, using economic theory and quantitative methods as important research tools. Strong research areas include economic growth and structural change, innovation, energy and sustainability, development economics, economic demography, financial history, and education and labor markets. More information is available on the department's website. Lund University is announcing a temporary position as University Lecturer in Economic History. The position runs for four months, starting October 5, 2026, and is located at the Department of Economic History, School of Economics. The position is 50 percent of full-time. Field of Study and Duties The field of study is economic history with a focus on innovation, energy, and sustainable transition. The position consists of teaching and may also include administrative tasks. Teaching may be at undergraduate and advanced levels and will focus on innovation and technological change, energy, sustainable development, and sustainable transitions from a long-term economic-historical perspective. Teaching in innovation policy and energy transition may also be included. Teaching will be conducted in both Swedish and English. Qualifications Completed doctoral degree in economic history or equivalent knowledge obtained through other means, as well as other competencies relevant to the position's field of focus and work duties. Demonstrated pedagogical skill. Requirements Very good proficiency in English and Swedish, both spoken and written. Completed university-level pedagogical training of at least 5 weeks or equivalent knowledge. Evaluation Criteria The School of Economics seeks a balance between research and teaching in all positions. Accordingly, equal weight will be given to scientific and pedagogical skill in the evaluation of applicants. Administrative ability will also be considered. In assessing scientific skill, a completed doctoral degree in economic history or equivalent scientific competence will be considered. Applicants who are in the final stages of their doctoral training at the application deadline and for whom defense is scheduled to occur before taking office may receive equivalent weight in this regard. Additionally, publishing in journals or with publishers using international peer review systems is considered meritorious, as is experience in national and international collaboration and participation in research networks. Further consideration is given to the degree of ability to collaborate with society and communicate research. The overall assessment of pedagogical qualifications includes university-level pedagogical training, pedagogical experience, and pedagogical skill. Special emphasis will be placed on documented experience teaching and developing courses in economic history with a focus on innovation and technological change, energy, sustainable development, and sustainable transitions from a long-term economic-historical perspective. In the overall assessment, particular weight will be given to the applicant's ability, based on documented pedagogical experience and subject competence, to immediately contribute to teaching in the specified focus area. Such experience and competence may carry greater weight than having completed a doctoral degree by the application deadline, provided the applicant is in the final stages of doctoral training and defense is scheduled before taking office. Consideration will be given to how the applicant's experience and competence may strengthen and complement teaching and research within the department.
