Description of the Workplace The Arabic department is located within the Division of Semitic Languages and Middle East Studies at the Center for Languages and Literature. The division currently offers instruction in Modern Standard Arabic, Arabic dialects, Modern Hebrew, and Middle East Studies. Within Arabic, courses are offered at all levels from introductory courses to advanced master's level courses. Hebrew courses are offered at the introductory level. Middle East Studies currently offers a limited number of courses at the bachelor's level due to planned restructuring of the bachelor's program. Doctoral education is offered in Semitic Languages. The department's current doctoral students specialize in Arabic literature and linguistics and study at least one additional Semitic language. Responsibilities include course development, planning, teaching, and examination in Arabic and Arabic dialect courses at the introductory level. Qualifications Requirements for employment: You are qualified for a position as University Lecturer in Semitic Languages if you have: - A completed degree at the advanced level in Arabic or equivalent knowledge, plus other competence relevant to the subject area and the duties of the position, - strong pedagogical experience and skill, and the ability to conduct, develop, and lead teaching and other educational activities at various levels using diverse teaching methods, - completed university pedagogical training of at least five weeks or equivalent knowledge acquired in another manner, - ability to teach in both Swedish and Arabic. Meritorious for employment: The general degree of scientific, pedagogical, administrative, and other competence relevant to the subject content and duties of the position, as well as personal qualities important for performing the duties well, will serve as the basis for evaluation. Additionally meritorious: - experience teaching, particularly in courses with similar content at the higher education level - experience in research and/or teaching in languages relevant to the subject - strong collaboration skills Other Information This is a temporary position at 25% employment, starting September 14, 2026 or by agreement, but no later than January 18, 2027. Vacation accrued during employment must be taken during the employment period. About the Faculties of Humanities and Theology The Faculties of Humanities and Theology have seven departments and conduct extensive and varied activities in research and education. We have approximately 700 employees and approximately 4,000 full-time students. About the Center for Languages and Literature The Center for Languages and Literature (SOL) is Sweden's largest institution specializing in languages, linguistics, literary studies, and area studies. SOL offers approximately 500 individual courses complemented by a growing number of degree programs at bachelor's and advanced levels. With its 36 subject areas and about 30 doctoral programs, SOL forms a strong unit with breadth and depth in education and research, distinguished by both national and international visibility. SOL is led by a board chaired by the Dean. Additionally, there are three Associate Deans with special operational responsibilities. SOL has approximately 300 employees and 8,000 students, including about a hundred doctoral students.
