The Disability Care Services in Umeå kommun aims to be a resource that, through closeness and collaboration, releases and strengthens people's ability to live an independent life.
Persons under 65 years old who have a disability and extensive support and care needs can apply for personal assistance. A personal assistant helps someone with basic needs, such as eating, dressing, washing, and communicating. The assistance is individually adapted and should provide increased opportunities for people with disabilities to live an independent life.
The Assignment
We are looking for you to create a valuable everyday life with confidence, clarity, and a great deal of creativity for an 18-year-old girl with a rare chromosomal abnormality, intellectual disability, and autism. The assignment is based from the girl's home in Sävar where she lives with parents and siblings. Depending on what you plan during the day, it can continue both at home and on various outings. You guide the day together with the user.
Work Tasks
Your work tasks will be to help and guide the user through the day. By working with structure and clear pedagogical methods, you will help the user at home and also plan and participate in activities and outings. You create order and organization for the user and, together with parents and school, you maintain routines but also find new ways of working when needed so that everyday life functions in the best possible way.
The user has a big heart and a large dose of charm, and enjoys when things happen around her. She likes music, games, fun, and various outings. There will be plenty of room for calm and cozy moments together. You will become an important person in the user's life and in the family's everyday routine. The work includes managing the user's emotions, which you do with empathy, respect, and low-arousal support. You act as a stress regulator, keeping yourself calm and focused in situations where the user cannot understand their own feelings.
Scheduled working hours: afternoons after school, evenings, and weekend/vacation days.
About You
We are looking for you who also has a big heart and great commitment to children and young people. You who want to help develop another person's life and everyday routine and who see this assignment as something long-term because security and relationships are very important for the user.
The assignment requires you to be driven and resourceful when it comes to activities. You are creative and enjoy fun ventures. The user needs your full focus and you need to stay one step ahead. You have patience and can switch between structure and flexibility to create transitions to the next activity or help the user with their emotions. You are a secure point for the user, possess good judgment and personal maturity. We place great emphasis on personal suitability.
It is desirable if you have education in pedagogy, social work, or are a trained support pedagogue. It is also meritorious to have experience with intellectual disability, autism, threat and violence prevention, and low-arousal support. A B-class driver's license is a requirement for the position.
As a consequence of the act on suitability checks, an extract from the police's criminal record must be presented upon employment.
