The School of Textiles is a center for competence supply in the textile and fashion sectors through education at foundational, advanced, and doctoral levels in both artistic fashion and textile design as well as in technology, economics, and management, along with research activities and close collaboration with the industry. The School of Textiles conducts extensive research in textile material technology, polymeric textile fibers, textile reinforcements for composites, smart textiles, textile management, and in the textile design field.
At the School of Textiles, theory and creativity are combined with practical work in our laboratories. For the garment technology laboratory, we are seeking a teaching technician with a focus on garment technology, industrial sewing, and prototype development. The laboratory is used for education, research, and collaboration and has an extensive range of machines for sewing and other joining techniques for, among other materials, knitted and woven fabrics, leather, and functional materials. Your responsibilities
Your duties will include:
Teaching practical elements in courses at foundational and advanced levels.
Supporting students, teachers, and researchers in laboratory work within pattern making, cutting, sewing, joining, fitting, and product development.
Handling, adjusting, and maintaining industrial sewing machines and specialized equipment, as well as performing basic troubleshooting.
Contributing to the development of laboratory processes and procedures.
Contributing to the development of laboratory teaching methods and instructional materials.
Ensuring that laboratory work maintains updated procedures in compliance with applicable health, safety, and environmental regulations.
Participating in research and development projects in the field by, for example, developing new structures, using new materials, and producing appropriate products.
Responsible for inventory of materials and placing orders for laboratory operations.
Collaborating with colleagues, laboratory management, researchers, and external parties for laboratory development.
Your qualifications
The position requires:
Completed upper secondary vocational education, vocational higher education, or other equivalent completed education in garment technology, tailoring, sewing, or pattern making.
Several years of documented experience in industrial sewing and sample or prototype production.
Good practical knowledge of pattern making, cutting, fitting, and garment production techniques.
Experience with industrial sewing machines, machine setup, daily maintenance, and basic troubleshooting.
Pedagogical and service-oriented ability to instruct users with varying levels of prior knowledge.
Good organizational and prioritization skills, accuracy, and strong collaboration abilities.
Good ability to communicate orally and in writing in Swedish, as well as the ability to communicate in English in work situations.
Meritorious:
Journeyman's certificate in tailoring or equivalent documented professional expertise.
Experience with digital pattern making, grading, marker making, or production specifications.
Experience with fitting and quality work as well as product development in garment manufacturing.
Experience with mentoring, work supervision, or practical guidance.
Experience with advanced joining techniques, functional or protective clothing, or new textile materials.
