If so, a position in the Swedish Customs Authority's Control Department might be right for you. The Control Department has a broad mandate to ensure that only approved goods cross the border. The assignment involves conducting customs controls on imports and exports, where the Swedish Customs Authority searches for goods that violate restrictions and ensures that correct customs duties and taxes are collected. Controls are also conducted within the country after the goods have crossed the border. The Control Department works with the entire chain from intelligence, control, apprehension, and investigation. The Control Department's operational work is conducted in teams where you work with the entire mandate of the Swedish Customs Authority. About the Position As a customs officer in an external control team, you will primarily work conducting inspections of goods in cargo and passenger flows to and from Sweden. This may include searching containers, ships, vehicles, baggage, warehouses, and terminals to find goods that are not approved for import or export from Sweden. Examples of such goods include narcotics, pharmaceuticals, weapons, and restricted goods that do not meet EU requirements, such as dangerous toys and electronics. The work may also involve customs declaration processing where you verify that correct duties are paid and that import and export restrictions are complied with. The position also involves deciding on coercive measures, which includes, for example, having to apprehend/detain persons, report crimes, and conduct interviews. As a customs officer, you work uniformed and armed, you make various forms of official decisions, and you meet the public and customers daily. We place great emphasis on your ability to treat people with respect and understanding, that you have good judgment, and that you are a good representative for the Swedish Customs Authority both internally and externally. You must be able to handle situations that are both psychologically and physically demanding. For example, you may need to be in dirty environments, confined spaces, and often outdoors in all types of weather. You need to have good physical condition to complete self-defense training, and you will receive training in handling OC spray and batons. During basic training, you will also be trained in handling a service pistol. Furthermore, you also need to be a very experienced driver to pass the Swedish Customs Authority's driver training. The work involves shift work, so you need to be comfortable with irregular working hours. We are looking for someone who has: Secondary education with at least a passing grade/2/E in: Mathematics, Social Studies, Swedish, and English At least four years of work experience Good ability to communicate and express yourself well in speech and writing in Swedish and English Swedish driver's license, class B for cars, and very good driving experience Normal color vision The work requires good physical fitness and good health because working hours can be irregular and the work and training are physically demanding Swimming ability, 200 meters breaststroke It is meritorious if you have: Experience taking responsibility and/or leading others – this could be at work, in associations, sports, or other contexts where you have had a leadership role Experience in roles where you have had extensive contact with people and needed to adapt your approach and communication Experience with practical and physically demanding work Ability to communicate fluently in speech in other languages besides Swedish, Norwegian, Danish, and English, which the employer deems relevant Personal Qualities The work takes place in a team, which requires that you as a person have strong social competence and good teamwork skills. You are confident in yourself, take responsibility, are service-oriented, have integrity, and can work independently within given frameworks and take own initiatives. As a person, you are stable, handle pressure well, and maintain composure even in stressful situations. Other important qualities are that you are law-abiding, have the ability to comply with laws and regulations, and have good judgment. You have a flexible attitude and can quickly adapt to changed circumstances. We set high standards for personal suitability with the ability to exercise government authority. Education and Employment Employment starts on February 8, 2027. You will begin your employment as a customs trainee with basic training that is divided into theory and practical components, totaling approximately 16 months. Approximately 100 training days during the theory component will be held in Stockholm. The theory component is alternated with practical elements and distance self-study, which requires high standards of personal responsibility for your studies. The practical component is conducted at the posting location. Starting salary during the training period is 27,000 kr. After successful completion of basic training, the trainee employment ends and converts to a permanent employment with a salary of at least 32,000 kr.
