At the Swedish Agency for Special Education, SPSM, we work to ensure that all children, students and adult learners with disabilities achieve their educational goals. We operate our own special schools in various locations across Sweden. We also provide support to preschools and schools throughout the country to jointly create learning environments that are developmental and accessible. The operations area encompasses the agency's all regional and national special schools, ten in total from Umeå to Lund. In addition to the schools, the operations area also includes a school operations unit, quality and administrative unit, management support and a central student health unit. The school operations unit is responsible for coordinating support staff at our special schools as well as sign language interpreting and currently has approximately 12 employees. Other operations areas within SPSM also receive support in sign language interpreting. Since the agency operates in large parts of the country, we use digital platforms for work and remote meetings. • Are you a sign language interpreter with high competence? • Are you a practitioner with theoretical grounding? • Are you confident in your professional role? We are seeking an additional sign language interpreter to be placed at Östervångskolan in Lund. Östervångskolan is a bilingual special school in a sign language environment where sign language is the common language for both students and staff. You will be part of Östervångskolan and SPSM's interpreter team which collectively contributes to the development of interpreting services. You will work closely with our current in-house interpreter at Östervångskolan, Emil, and receive support from Emil and our other interpreters to quickly integrate into the special schools' mission. Our mission is to provide deaf students and students with hearing impairment with education equivalent to that provided in primary school/adapted primary school, according to the special school curriculum. Östervångskolan has approximately 90 students and is a multicultural school with students from various countries and cultures. We communicate in Swedish sign language as well as spoken and written Swedish. 1 position(s). DUTIES As a sign language interpreter for Östervångskolan's operations, your work involves interpreting for both students and staff in various situations. For students, this may include lessons, development conversations, study visits and cultural events. Interpreting also occurs during breaks, in after-school activities, in student council work and at joint activities. For staff, this may involve teaching, meetings, conferences and professional development. Information to students and staff about how to use an interpreter is also included. Some administrative work may also occur. QUALIFICATIONS We are looking for someone who has: Education: • The Institute for Interpreters and Translators' prescribed interpreter training with satisfactory results. Work Experience: • At least 2 years of recent experience working as a sign language interpreter. • Experience as a deafblind interpreter. It is desirable if you are authorized by the Court of Appeal and have further education within the interpreter field. It is also desirable if you have: • Experience interpreting in school-related situations and situations with children and young people. • Experience with pedagogical language use. • Experience with formal language use. • Experience with remote interpreting via digital platforms such as Zoom. • Experience with administrative support systems and other digital tools. You can maintain a calm approach even in stressful situations and enjoy working both independently and in team settings. Employment Type: Permanent employment.
