The next training program for train traffic controllers starts in week 2 of January 2027—and now you have the chance to apply! Job Responsibilities What does a train traffic controller do? This is a profession for you if you like to stay on top of things and where no two days are the same. You work on-site at the traffic control center together with experienced colleagues with the common goal of ensuring both goods and passengers arrive safely and on time. For us to succeed, collaboration, community spirit, and teamwork are extremely important. The work is performed via computer and telephone, and your decisions affect thousands of travelers every day. Working as a train traffic controller involves, among other things: Directing and monitoring railway traffic in real-time, around the clock, every day of the year. Handling disruptions and delays, prioritizing and making decisions that affect railway traffic. Following regulations and safety procedures for safe railway traffic. Collaborating with colleagues at the traffic control center, customers, train drivers, and emergency services. Working shifts according to a rotating schedule. Qualifications What is required to become a train traffic controller? This role suits you if you have strong analytical abilities and approach problems in a structured and solution-oriented manner. As a person, you are stable and easily adapt your pace when things happen. You stay calm and make independent, well-founded decisions even under pressure. You have high safety awareness, are thorough, take responsibility for your tasks and your learning. You are a team player who communicates clearly and values collaboration. Your ability to apply theory to practice is crucial for successfully completing the basic training. To become a train traffic controller, you must: Have studied at upper secondary school or have equivalent knowledge from other studies (e.g., folk high school, municipal adult education, or vocational training). Have good ability to express yourself in speech and writing in Swedish. Be willing and able to work shifts (day, evening, night, weekends, and public holidays). It is an advantage but not a requirement if you have: Experience working with rapid pace changes. Experience working in a role where following procedures and regulations was important. Experience in work where safety was a focus. Experience communicating verbally by telephone and digitally by computer in your work. Additional Information Shift Work All train traffic controllers work alternating day, evening, night, weekend, and public holiday shifts according to a rotating schedule. It is important that you consider your ability to work shifts before submitting your application. Basic Training and Trainee Employment You will be employed as a trainee with trainee salary (approximately 25,000–28,000 SEK per month) and will undergo approximately one year of paid training starting in week 2 of January 2027. The training consists of 5–7 weeks of theoretical courses on-site at the Swedish Transport Administration School in Ängelholm, plus practical experience at your traffic control center. About the Recruitment Process Several stages of the recruitment process will require your physical presence as a candidate, meaning you may need to take time off from any current job or studies to continue participating in the recruitment process. A recruitment day including work tests and work-related exercises will be held in person in Gothenburg in weeks 37–38. Individual psychological assessment will be conducted digitally in weeks 39–41. Final interviews are planned to be conducted digitally in weeks 40–41. Train traffic controller is a safety-critical role, and to be employed you must meet certain security and health requirements.
