SiS youth home Bergsmansgården receives non-compulsory school-age girls. We have operations in Fjugesta, three miles west of Örebro, and a satellite unit in Gammelbo, three miles north of Lindesberg. The girls come to us because they have psychosocial problems as well as issues with criminality or drug abuse.
Job Description
Are you passionate about young people and want to work at a school with good atmosphere, high quality, and job satisfaction? Now you have the chance to influence students' future and education in a creative and enabling school environment. We are now seeking a studies and career counselor at SiS Youth Home Bergsmansgården, distributed between our main operations in Brotorp outside Fjugesta and Gammelbo outside Lindesberg.
The students placed at the units are non-compulsory school-age. They study within the framework of the introductory program; individual alternative, but there may also be compulsory school-age students and students within adapted school. Most students have had difficulties in schoolwork and have a great need to compensate for incomplete schooling. All students have an individual study plan where, together with a mentor and studies and career counselor, they set goals and study basic and/or upper secondary school subjects according to their needs. Teaching is conducted full-time in smaller teaching groups.
As a studies and career counselor, your main task is to guide students toward further studies, internships, or alternative paths into working life. You are challenged by meeting students with different needs and conditions and have a good ability to create good professional relationships and motivate students to show their possibilities. To thrive in the role, it is important that you are flexible and have good communication skills. The studies and career counselor position involves collaboration both within SiS and with other professionals around the students within social services and education administration, where students' right to education is central. As a studies and career counselor, you contribute to enabling continuity in students' uninterrupted schooling both when they are placed, during their stay, and when they move out from SiS. At the youth home, there are several complementary competencies, and as a studies and career counselor, you are part of an interdisciplinary and shared effort around the young people. Collaboration with, for example, nurses, treatment pedagogues, and psychologists, etc., is therefore an important part of your tasks. The work also involves supervising and leading the teaching staff on matters relating to education, working life, and society within the framework of general studies and career guidance.
Qualifications
You need to be drawn to building trusting pedagogical relationships with students with psychosocial problems and involvement in criminality. It is important that you can identify and meet students with high realistic expectations and support the student in finding their goal and paths that lead there. You are flexible, receptive, and have an understanding that there may be obstacles while having the ability to see new possible paths for the student. We prefer that you are unpretentious, can set and maintain boundaries in a respectful manner, and have faith that all students can find a path to education and work.
You are secure, stable, and calm, even in stressful situations. You have good collaboration skills, high social competence, and a positive view of students. You also understand the importance of adapting to changed circumstances and see the benefits of change.
You are resourceful and participate in development work to achieve the school's goals and always take responsibility for your tasks by planning, organizing, and prioritizing work efficiently. The work requires that you have a good ability to express yourself in speech and writing and that you think about adapting communication depending on the recipient.
