We are responsible for developing planning materials for the comprehensive plan, coordinating ongoing comprehensive planning, and developing guidelines. We work in close collaboration with other parts of the municipality, politics, business, and external stakeholders. Now we are strengthening our team with a new role – Strategic Environmental Planner – an important function in developing and clarifying the environmental perspective in our urban planning. Your responsibilities As a Strategic Environmental Planner, you will have a central role in integrating the environmental perspective into long-term urban planning, with a special focus on comprehensive planning and early stages. As part of the assignment, you will contribute to developing working methods, approaches, and structures for how environmental and sustainability assessments and environmental issues are handled in the planning process. Since this role is new, there is an opportunity to influence how the assignment develops over time. Here you become an important link between strategists and planners – you create understanding between different perspectives and help make environmental issues understandable, relevant, and easy to implement in practice. You will work with both comprehensive and detailed planning, and your responsibilities include: driving and developing work on strategic environmental assessments, environmental impact assessments, and sustainability assessments participating in comprehensive planning and other strategic planning processes providing qualified support on environmental issues throughout the planning process developing or commissioning, coordinating, and quality-assuring environmental investigations – with a focus on environmental assessments, environmental impact assessments, and sustainability assessments developing materials, guidelines, and working methods within the environmental field contributing to environmental monitoring and managing new and complex issues. You will operate at the interface between strategy and practice, where you are expected to drive development while also contributing to more traditional investigative tasks. The role involves great variety, from working with overarching structural questions to developing or reviewing concrete materials. As part of our development, we also see that you can contribute and support the unit's work with GIS, analyses, and visualizations related to environment and planning. Who are you? We are looking for you with relevant higher education or university degree, for example in cultural geography, urban planning, or environmental science. You have several years of experience working with environmental issues related to physical planning, preferably in comprehensive planning, as well as several years of experience with strategic environmental assessments and environmental impact assessments. It is positive if you have experience commissioning and reviewing environmental investigations as well as working with sustainability assessments. The role requires good knowledge of the Environmental Code, the Planning and Building Act, and GIS, and you may also have knowledge of GIS analysis and visualization. As a person, you are self-driven and take responsibility for advancing your work. You have good analytical skills and enjoy handling complex issues where you need to weigh different interests against each other and find realistic solutions. You are collaborative and have a natural ability to build relationships, share knowledge, and contribute to a good work environment. At the same time, you have a pedagogical and communicative ability – you can translate complex environmental issues so they become understandable and usable for different target groups. We also believe you are curious and development-oriented, and enjoy a role where there is plenty happening and not all answers are predetermined. You have the ability to structure, prioritize, and see the big picture – and appreciate a position where you both get to develop new things and contribute to ongoing work.
