As a support assistant in our adapted primary school, you'll have the opportunity to make a real difference! The municipality's adapted primary school is located by Lake Mälaren at Tosteröskolan and Thomasskolan on Campus in Strängnäs. Teaching follows the adapted primary school curriculum and we use modern technology. Approximately sixty people (educators, student assistants, special education teacher, counselor, and administrative staff) work in the operation. At the adapted primary school, we all work to develop each student according to their individual capabilities. We are now seeking a support assistant for a temporary position of three months with the possibility of extension. 1 position(s). WORK TASKS As a support assistant with us in the adapted primary school, you will actively participate in activities during school hours and in after-school care. You will meet and work with our students who have various functional variations in combination with intellectual disabilities, such as autism, ADHD, challenging behaviors, and physical functional variations. The role involves supporting all students, but your work will also focus on more individualized attention. You have very good knowledge of and experience with children with intellectual disabilities, ADHD, and autism. You need to be able to handle challenging and difficult students professionally and have good pedagogical understanding. You use clarifying pedagogy, low-arousal approaches, and work in a structured manner. You can interpret social interactions among students and be a trustworthy adult role model. Your approach is that children do the right thing if they can. You will support and guide students in teaching and other activities during school and after-school hours, but you will also take responsibility for planning and leading planned activities according to the current curriculum. Based on your knowledge of what facilitates learning for the student, you contribute with support and solutions. QUALIFICATIONS We are looking for someone who has: • Education as a behavioral scientist, support pedagogue, support assistant, or student assistant. Alternatively, other equivalent education or corresponding several years of experience. • Experience working with intellectual disabilities and challenging behavior. • Knowledge of alternative communication, AAC and TAKK. • Good experience using IT as a support in daily work. • Good ability to express yourself in Swedish, both verbally and in writing. It is meritorious if you have experience working in adapted school, within the LSS field, or with children who have multiple functional variations. You have the ability to meet each student on their own terms and adapt your approach based on the needs of the group and individuals. You need to be confident and strong in your role, and you are good at finding solutions to compensate for students' difficulties in the learning environment. To motivate, inspire, and challenge students, you use your ability to show humility, warmth, and at the same time set boundaries. It is also important that you have good cooperation skills, are responsive, and see the value of being part of a work team. You have a professional attitude toward students, colleagues, and guardians. You reflect on ethics and values-based questions.
