As a city attorney in Eskilstuna Municipality, you will work with exciting, specialized, and socially important legal matters at the intersection of politics and municipal operations. The municipality is constantly developing and changing, and the legal perspective is an important piece of the puzzle. The legal department is its own unit within the administrative management staff, centrally located at the municipal management office. You will be part of an engaged team of five city attorneys and a chief attorney. WORK TASKS The focus of this position is on legal matters related to urban development processes, that is, planning and building law, land and exploitation, real estate law and environmental law, as well as contract law related to these legal areas. As a city attorney, you support the municipality's boards, administrations, and companies and provide guidance and advice on legal matters that may affect the entire municipality. You work both operatively and strategically. You move between matters of varying scope, legal content, and complexity, which provides room for both specialization and breadth. In your advice, you contribute with both general administrative law expertise and specialized expertise, and you have the opportunity to work more specialized within your legal areas. The position requires high demands on independence, flexibility, integrity, and the ability to make complex legal assessments where there are not always clear answers. There is plenty of room for both legal craftsmanship and professional development. The work involves frequent contact with the municipality's operations. Your work tasks include, among other things, preparing and reviewing proposed statements, decisions, and other documents such as policy documents and agreements. You represent the municipality in legal proceedings. Qualified investigative work is a natural part of the work, as are educational, developmental, informational, and other initiatives that strengthen the legal work in the municipality. The work also includes, to some extent, advice within municipal law and other public law such as legislation on public access and confidentiality. QUALIFICATIONS We are looking for you with a law degree and several years of experience in independent, qualified legal work. You should have experience working with planning and building law or environmental law or related legal areas. You have good IT skills, can express yourself very well in Swedish both orally and in writing, and have the ability to explain complicated legal matters in a way that others can understand and apply. The role requires you to be willing to take on both public law and civil law issues related to the urban development area. It is particularly valuable if you have experience in litigation within planning and building law, environmental law, or real estate law, in contract law in the urban development area, or in matters related to land and exploitation. If you have already worked with legal matters related to municipal operations and municipal decision-making, that is a positive factor. Success factors for succeeding with this assignment are a consultative approach and close collaboration with your clients, as the role involves many contacts with different professional competencies.
