Emergency Medicine in Kungälv Kungälv Hospital is a smaller hospital just north of Gothenburg that serves approximately 125,000 residents, largely from smaller coastal communities, and receives about 32,000 patients aged 16 and above per year in internal medicine, surgery, orthopedics, and trauma. Emergency Physicians in Kungälv The emergency physician initiative began in fall 2017, and as of fall 2026 we have seven specialist physicians and 13 ST doctors in emergency medicine working with us. As an ST doctor, you will follow SWESEM's training plan for emergency medicine, and internal medicine training is conducted in collaboration with other hospitals in the Gothenburg region, including SÄS. This means that approximately half of the ST position consists of rotations, courses, and assignments that take place both locally and regionally. As a specialist, you will have significant opportunities to change and develop the operations and participate in further education. Work Tasks The position primarily involves duty at the emergency department during day, evening, and night shifts. Time for administration and training is scheduled, and a sustainable work environment is a main focus. As a specialist, supervising ST doctors is part of your work. You are also expected to contribute to developing the working methods for the emergency physician group. Since spring 2026, we have launched a mobile emergency physician team (MALT) that is staffed by emergency medicine specialists. MALT offers patient-centered emergency care in the home for patients who benefit from avoiding hospital stays. You must hold Swedish medical licensure and have work experience in Swedish inpatient care.
