Responsibilities As a school counselor, you share responsibility with school leadership and other members of the student wellness team to ensure that student wellness initiatives best contribute to students' goal achievement and provide students with good conditions for health and learning. According to the Education Act, student wellness should primarily work to promote health and prevent problems. The school counselor brings psychosocial expertise to the school at the individual, group, and organizational levels and works on behalf of the principal. In your role as a whole, you work based on proven experience and evidence with psychosocial interventions directed at groups or individual students. You work with a solution-focused approach and always try to see the positive aspects and build from there. Your responsibilities include group-oriented interventions, individual conversations with students, conducting assessments, and coaching staff on certain matters. Your role also includes contact with other authorities. You give and receive support on profession-specific issues in your professional category, which you meet regularly. There are three school counselors who collaborate across all of VBU, but your primary focus will be on a couple of our school units. Qualifications and Experience We are looking for someone who is trained as a social worker and has knowledge of social services law and school policies. You can organize and prioritize your work in an efficient manner that leads to results. As a person, you are initiative-driven, curious, positive, and develop yourself by staying informed about new research and collaborating with colleagues. The work requires strong collaboration skills, a holistic perspective, and flexibility. This applies in every situation and in every relationship. You are comfortable working with both smaller and larger groups of students and staff. You find it easy to collaborate and build good working relationships. Experience working with children and young people is desirable and meritorious. Previous experience working as a school counselor is highly meritorious. We also see an advantage if you have prior experience working in social services for children and young people, or previous service in child and adolescent psychiatry. Personal suitability is of great importance. Particularly meritorious: Further education as a healthcare counselor. Also meritorious are experience and success using various tools such as motivational interviewing (MI) or other tools that are effective in daily work to motivate students toward better health and learning. Employment Terms This position is a permanent employment and the employment form is a full-time leave-replacement position starting October 1, 2026 or by agreement. Probationary employment applies.
