If you have students at the center and want to collaborate in our student welfare team, you might be the right person for us. We are now seeking an engaged temporary school counselor at 50% to our two schools while our counselor is pursuing further education.
Klastorp-Essinge Schools consist of Klastorpsskolan and Essingeskolan, which form one school unit. Klastorpsskolan is a grades F-3 school and Essingeskolan is a grades F-6 school. Both schools have just over 200 students each, together forming a school unit of just over 400 students from grades F-6. Klastorpsskolan is beautifully situated on Kungsholmen and Essingeskolan is centrally located, in the middle of the village, on Stora Essingen. The school unit's focus is chess and mathematics, and we have seen very good results from this, as our students have very strong academic achievements.
Your role
As a school counselor, you will be an important part of the school's student welfare team. As a school counselor, you work primarily on prevention and health promotion, and contribute psychosocial and social competence in close collaboration with student welfare professionals and other school staff. You enjoy working closely with students individually or in groups. One of your responsibilities is to oversee the school unit's work with student absenteeism. Our counselor's time and assignment are guided by the student welfare team to enable planning and implementation of interventions and to ensure that the right students receive help.
Your tasks are varied and diverse throughout the workday. This could include:
Identifying and analyzing opportunities and promoting factors in the school's learning environment and reducing obstacles to learning and personal development at the organizational, group, and individual levels.
Conducting conversations with students individually and in groups, attending parent meetings and network meetings, coaching and consulting school staff,
Documenting for decisions regarding individual student work and for the school's systematic quality work.
Participating in developing and implementing action plans regarding drugs, crisis management, values-based education, and conflict resolution, as well as plans against harassment and active measures to prevent discrimination,
Contributing knowledge about society's resources and support systems and collaborating with social services, child and adolescent psychiatry, rehabilitation services, associations and community activities, and police.
Your competence and experience
We are looking for a counselor who is engaged, relationship-building, and has a holistic view of students' situations. You are comfortable working independently, with the ability to structure your time and work.
We are looking for someone who has
A degree in social work or equivalent education.
Experience in social work with children and young people, preferably within social services.
Good knowledge of children and young people and their development.
A broad range of working methods based on theories about societal and social systems, human behavior, communication, and interpersonal relationships.
Good knowledge in social work, psychosocial change work, sociology, psychology, social law, and broad and continuously updated knowledge of society's welfare systems.
As a school counselor, you are required to take independent responsibility for your professional work and how the psychosocial intervention will be concretized and designed. A work plan with prioritized activity areas based on the school's needs and systematic quality work is developed in dialogue with the principal. This provides great freedom of action but also places significant demands on good judgment and thorough knowledge of the basic assignment according to school law, curricula, and other governing and guidance documents.
School counselor work requires the ability to handle multiple perspectives, as school social work must protect and highlight the importance of structural, organizational, and relational perspectives. The school counselor is also responsible for maintaining and deepening their professional competence and monitoring developments in the field.
Great importance will be placed on personal qualities.
