We warmly welcome you as our new counselor at Björkåsskolan in the Sydväst 2 school area. Björkåsskolan serves approximately 300 students from preschool through grade 6. The school is centrally located with proximity to outdoor recreation areas and Frölunda Square and Gothenburg's city center with its rich cultural offerings.
This is a full-time position (100%). There is an opportunity to adjust the employment level to between 80 and 100% based on the applicant's wishes and by agreement. You will be part of a team with the school's student wellbeing team and work together with the counselors at our sister school, Flatåsskolan.
Job Responsibilities
As a counselor, you are part of the student wellbeing team consisting of the principal, assistant principal, school nurse, special education coordinator, special education teacher, and school psychologist. The team collaborates with other staff and external partners. The team's mission is to work preventatively and promote health together with the principal and teaching staff to develop good learning environments in a school for all.
As a counselor, you work to promote attendance, conduct support conversations, collaborate with and support guardians, provide consultation and supervision to staff, and implement interventions in groups and classes. You also collaborate with external partners such as social services, rehabilitation services, UPH, and BUP. You will conduct school social assessments and evaluations for admission to adapted primary school and investigate student absences. You document your work in PMO and have good knowledge of the Social Services Act and the Education Act. You actively take responsibility in evaluating and following up on the school's "Academic Year Plan and Plan Against Discrimination and Harassment." The counselor role also includes preventative work and continuously monitoring the school's values and safety initiatives by leading the school's Safety Team.
Within the Primary School Administration, you participate in professional meetings once a month with colleague counselors and professional development specialists and participate in external supervision. Qualifications
We are looking for someone with a degree in social work or equivalent higher education. It is an advantage if you have experience working with children and young people or within social services.
Additional merits include:
- experience working as a counselor in a school
- experience leading safety teams or similar
- experience with social investigations and NPF
- experience documenting in PMO
- knowledge of the Social Services Act
- experience with preventative work in schools from a psychosocial perspective
- knowledge of the curriculum's goals, values, and view of learning
- training in conversation methods/supervision
Personal Competencies
We are looking for someone with strong commitment to the psychosocial situation of children and young people and the ability to apply this in work at both individual and group and organizational levels. You are structured and clear in your work and are comfortable working both independently and in collaboration with other professionals. You take responsibility for your tasks and prioritize your efforts together with school management and other student wellbeing staff. You are professional and respectful in your interactions with students and in contact with guardians and colleagues.
