Do you want to make a difference for children and young people's education and wellbeing? We are now hiring a school counselor at Bergsgårdsskolan who wants to become part of our dedicated team! This is a permanent full-time position (100%) placed in both the primary school and the adapted primary school.
Bergsgårdsskolan is a primary school for grades F–6 (2-parallel classes) as well as an adapted primary school for grades 1–6. Approximately 330 students attend our primary school and around 70 students are in the adapted primary school, distributed across 13 classes. The school also has three after-school programs. The school is located in Hjällbo with immediate proximity to natural areas and only a five-minute walk from the Hjällbo tram station.
The school has an experienced and well-functioning student welfare team consisting of a school nurse, counselor, special education teacher, and psychologist who continuously provide close support to all our students and staff.
Job Responsibilities
As a counselor, you will be part of the school's and school district's student welfare team and contribute psychosocial expertise at the organizational, group, and individual levels. In student welfare work, you collaborate with teachers, school nurse, special education teacher, psychologist, school physician, and assistant principal, among others.
Together with the assistant principal and teaching staff, the team's mission is to work on health promotion and prevention to strengthen children and young people's opportunities to achieve their goals.
In addition to your local team at Bergsgårdsskolan, you will also have close collaboration and exchange with other counselors in the Hjällbo school district.
Your responsibilities include:
Participating in the school's ongoing values and safety work and implementing group and class interventions.
Conducting support conversations and collaborating with and supporting guardians. Offering consultation to school staff.
Conducting social investigations for admission to adapted primary school, school social investigations, and investigations of student absences.
Documenting your work in PMO. You have good knowledge of the Social Services Act, the Education Act, and other governing documents.
Collaborating with external actors such as social services, BUP, UPH, rehabilitation services, leisure activities, SSPF, and Rätt kurva.
Within the Primary School Administration, you will participate in professional meetings once a month together with counselor colleagues and professional development staff, as well as participate in external supervision. Counselors in the administration work from a common job description. As a new counselor with us, you will receive thorough onboarding and a mentor.
Qualifications
We are looking for someone with a degree in social work or equivalent higher education that the employer considers relevant. It is meritoriously if you have previous experience working as a school counselor, as well as experience working with children and young people.
It is also meritoriously if you have:
- Experience working within social services
- Experience with health promotion and prevention initiatives
- Training in conversation methods / supervision

You have great commitment to children and young people's psychosocial situation and have a genuine ability to meet people in different life situations. You are good at building relationships and are professional and respectful in your interactions with students, guardians, and colleagues. Through your approach, you enable children to share their experiences and contribute to elevating students' participation and perspectives.
The profession requires a high degree of independence, ability to collaborate, and personal maturity. You have an interest in working in a pedagogical environment and in teams with different professionals. In your work, you are structured and clear, take initiative and make decisions within your mandate, and prioritize your actions together with the principal and other student welfare staff. You are comfortable working with complex issues, see opportunities, and are creative. You remain calm in difficult situations and can make well-founded decisions even under time pressure. You also have a strong ability to communicate well both verbally and in writing.
