JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

We are now looking for a school counselor. In this role, psychosocial competence is crucial to meet students' needs and contribute to a safe and supportive school environment.
As a school counselor, you are an important part of the school's student wellness team and work to promote students' mental health, well-being, and social development. Your assignment is broad and varied—you are there where needed most, which means you work both preventively and supportively in close collaboration with students, staff, and guardians.
Job duties may include providing counseling support to students who need help managing anxiety, conflicts, stress, or relationship problems. Crisis support during acute events, both individually and in groups. Another important task is preventive work around safety, well-being, and core values.
Contribute psychosocial expertise as support for pedagogical work together with teachers and in overall planning of school operations - provide knowledge about risk and protective factors for students' health, social situation, learning, and development - be a driver in the school's systematic quality improvement work - hold major responsibility in work with the school's structure and organization regarding core values and equal treatment - provide guidance and consultation to school staff - contribute knowledge about society's support systems - collaborate with other authorities, for example in initiatives related to parental support - conduct conversations, such as support, motivation, and crisis conversations as well as investigative and advisory conversations with individual students and their families related to the school situation - on the principal's assignment, investigate and assess the social and psychosocial situation for individual students, including as a basis for decisions about special support and when establishing intervention programs and for students' admission to adapted primary school.
QUALIFICATIONS
We are looking for someone who is a social worker or has another academic background that the employer considers equivalent. You are confident, attentive, and have a talent for creating trusting relationships with both children and adults. You are flexible and solution-focused, with the ability to prioritize and act quickly based on current needs. You thrive working both independently and in a team, and have a genuine commitment to the well-being of children and young people.
Tierp Municipality is part of the Finnish administrative area. If, in addition to our other competency requirements, you also speak Finnish, that could be an asset.
Employment form: Permanent employment.
Duration: Permanent, start date: September 1, 2026.
Work hours: Daytime.
