How exciting that you're interested in working with us! Here in western Värmland, among vast lakes and lush forests, there is a strong glow that spreads warmth and shines bright. The glow is our vision and guiding star. Today, approximately 2,700 competent employees work in Arvika Municipality. Welcome to you as well! Do you want to help develop a school library that makes a real difference for students' learning, reading, and future opportunities? We are now looking for a dedicated school librarian for Solbergagymnasiet in Arvika – a school where the library is a natural meeting place and an important pedagogical resource. Solbergagymnasiet is a prestigious and forward-thinking secondary school with approximately 330 students. It offers four college-preparatory programs – the Natural Sciences Program, Technology Program, Social Sciences Program, and Economics Program – as well as Adapted Secondary School Individual Program, which started in the 2024–2025 academic year. The school has a well-educated faculty and is characterized by commitment, a drive for development, and new ideas. We place great emphasis on creating a safe and accepting climate where students have the opportunity to develop, learn, and achieve their goals and dreams. Positive and warm relationships are an important part of our work, and we believe learning happens best when students feel seen and welcomed. At Solbergagymnasiet, the library is a living part of the school. It is both a place for focused study and social interaction, but above all an outward-facing and well-integrated pedagogical resource for students and staff. As a school librarian, you will have the opportunity to work with the school's educators to develop the library's role in teaching and contribute to students' language proficiency, reading enthusiasm, information literacy, and digital competence. Here you get a role where you can combine the librarian profession with the pedagogical mission – and where your ideas and initiatives can make a difference every day. Qualifications To succeed in the role of school librarian, we are looking for someone who has: University degree in library and information science. Strong knowledge of media and information literacy (MIL). Strong knowledge of fiction for youth and adults. Previous experience working in a library. Good ability to express yourself in Swedish, both orally and in writing. Good digital competence. It is also advantageous if you as a school librarian have: Experience working as a school librarian and experience working with young people or in school activities. Experience in reading promotion and experience working with students with reading disabilities or other needs for adapted support. Experience in teaching or mentoring within MIL, information retrieval, and source criticism. Experience working with educational materials and digital learning resources and knowledge of and experience with library systems, databases, and digital information resources. As a person, you are relationship-building, receptive, and confident in meeting with young people. You work well with both students, teachers, and other staff, while being able to independently plan and manage your work. You are organized and responsible, but also flexible and curious about trying new approaches. You have a genuine interest in young people's different circumstances and conditions and see the library as a place where all students should feel welcome. You have the ability to adapt your communication to different audiences and thrive in a role where pedagogy, literature, information, and human interaction are central. Area of Responsibility As a school librarian at Solbergagymnasiet, you have a broad and varied assignment where you both manage the library's daily operations and develop the library as a pedagogical resource. Your work includes, among other things: Staffing and managing the library's daily operations. Being an available resource for students and staff and providing support in information retrieval, source criticism, source management, and use of various information sources. Collaborating with teachers and work teams on teaching within media and information literacy (MIL), information retrieval, and source criticism, as well as literature, reading, and reading promotion initiatives. Inspiring students to read and providing guidance in selecting fiction based on interest, needs, and individual circumstances. Planning and implementing activities that promote reading enthusiasm, language development, and literary interest. Managing and developing the library's book collection, digital media, databases, and other information resources. Monitoring the external environment regarding literature, media, digital resources, and the school's various subject areas. Collaborating with educators on acquisition and development of the library's media collection to support teaching and student needs. Managing and organizing educational materials. Collaborating with special educators and other student support services to provide support to students with reading disabilities and other needs for adapted materials. Contributing to the school's work on language and knowledge development. Developing the library's pedagogical activities in line with changing needs among students, the school, and society. Contributing to the library being a safe, inclusive, and inspiring place for all students.
