Are you a flexible nurse who enjoys variety, fast-paced work, and teamwork? Welcome to the Infectious Disease Clinic at Vrinnevisjukhuset!
"I chose to start at the infectious disease department right after my nursing degree because I thought the variety of patients/diseases/conditions and medical-technical equipment was important to become familiar with. I've chosen to stay because I always have fun at work and learn new things every day. Of course, it can be stressful and fast-paced, but the advantage of the infectious disease department is that all colleagues are incredibly helpful. I've never felt that any question is too stupid, or felt bothered when asking for help. Everyone is incredibly helpful and very caring about each other."

Job Description
As a nurse on Department 20, you are a team leader for the team working around the patient. The team, in addition to the nurse, consists of other professions such as; nursing assistants, doctors, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, and counselors. Other support functions available are care coordinators and coordinators. On weekdays, our most experienced nurses are also available in a supporting function to assist the care team with complex issues and advanced patient cases.
As a nurse, you are responsible for advanced nursing care, medications, medical-technical procedures, and creating structure for daily planning including ward rounds. The daily work on Department 20 is very varied with a wide range of both diagnoses and patient demographics. The work pace is also alternating. These variations in work mean that as a nurse you must be flexible and able to adapt to the situations you encounter. This means you gain experience and breadth early on. You also need to stay updated on the latest findings and treatments in infectious care, which means you as a person are curious and always have a desire to learn and develop. The Infectious Disease Clinic's unique expertise includes caring for diseases that require isolation and the application of special hygiene routines to prevent infection to/between patients and healthcare staff.
"Over the years, great atmosphere in the workplace with colleagues who care about each other. Varied patients and high pace, where you always learn something new. There's always some new infectious disease that you need to familiarize yourself with."
Björn, Nurse, 38 years at the clinic
"As a newly graduated nurse, I thought Department 20 was the perfect place to start. I've learned a lot about infectious diseases, comorbidity, medications, and medical-technical equipment. I've also learned to prioritize my work in what is sometimes a fast pace, which has been important for me as new to the profession. Fortunately, I've learned all this in a positive and supportive environment with wonderful and helpful colleagues."
Tyra, Nurse, 6 months at the clinic
Work Group
The Infectious Disease Clinic is a regional clinic with approximately 160 employees. On Department 20, we have a work group with both experienced and relatively new employees. Here it is important that we take responsibility for the work together and that we are each other's work environment. As an employee at the Infectious Disease Clinic, you will be included in the community and become a natural part of the team. We believe we have an environment where everyone is constantly learning new things and where a learning and open climate is very important, where you always dare to ask questions. We have a clear structure for continuous development and information distribution through internal and external lectures, weekly department meetings, weekly newsletters, and through collaboration with the infectious disease department at the University Hospital.
"The reason I work in infectious disease is my colleagues – we're a great bunch! And here we help each other – no questions are stupid questions."
