Nurse for the Emergency Department for Infectious Diseases
Department of Infectious Diseases We are Akademiska Hospital – one of Sweden's leading university hospitals. As a regional hospital and provider of highly specialized care, we serve healthcare to two million people in central Sweden. Here, something is always happening – a new life is born, a grandmother is operated on, a colleague is celebrated as a hero. With us, you will experience both challenging trials and fantastic moments, in a strong community with colleagues. Welcome with your application! Our Operations At the emergency department for infectious diseases, we receive adult patients with serious infections. This can involve acute conditions requiring immediate care, but also complicated infections where investigation and sometimes prolonged treatment may be necessary. Our emergency department is open between 07:30 – 21:30 every day of the week. The breadth and variety of patients we care for makes the work interesting and enjoyable. Many of the diagnoses we handle are common in society, such as respiratory tract infections, wound infections, sepsis, or meningitis, while other infections are rarer, such as tropical medicine diseases. As a patient, you can seek care directly through our emergency intake, but you can also be referred here or arrive by ambulance transport. We examine, investigate, and treat our patients during their visits with us. The work pace is often high and patient flow can sometimes be intensive, making the work days content-rich. The knowledge you gain with us is valuable and useful. Having experience in infectious disease nursing is beneficial in most specialties as a nurse, and is an excellent credential for those who dream of working internationally. The field of infectious disease nursing is constantly facing new challenges with outbreaks of both domestic and global infections. We are therefore looking for someone who has a genuine interest in infectious disease nursing and who wants to help develop our operations to meet both today's and future care needs. Our goal is that with our combined expertise and experience, we will offer our patients world-class care! Your Assignment As a nurse at the emergency department for infectious diseases, you work in a team together with doctors, nurses, and nursing assistants. The nurse's responsibility is to manage patient flow and logistics around the patient, so that acute care becomes person-centered and patient-safe. This includes triage, specimen collection, and prioritization of patients. You also have a key role in the continued handling of the patient focused on investigation, diagnostics, and treatment. The work involves extensive patient contact and requires a developed understanding of the patient's care needs. You become the patient's security and support in a situation that can be stressful for both the sick person and their relatives. Most of our patients are cared for at the infectious disease clinic for a limited time, but some come to us for treatment over many years, for long-term or recurring infections. Our nurses are offered the opportunity to rotate toward our day care unit where we receive patients for scheduled nurse visits for OPAT/outpatient antibiotic therapy, wound care, vaccination, and immunodeficiency treatment. Your Qualifications You are a licensed nurse with particular interest in acute and infectious disease nursing, or alternatively a specialist nurse in infectious disease nursing. We would like you to have a few years of experience in the profession, but it is not a requirement. It is meritorious if you have previous experience working in an emergency department or in infectious disease nursing. Your Competencies You are comfortable working in an acute flow, with constantly new patient contacts. You have the ability to remain calm in acute situations and are able to prioritize your work tasks when there is high workload. You are accustomed to working independently, but enjoy being part of a team. We place great emphasis on personal qualities and the desire to develop through continuous learning. What We Offer Our goal is that you as an employee with us will be satisfied, develop, and feel joy in your work. Here you will work in a stable work group with experienced colleagues, several of whom are specialist-trained. We apply healthy working hours and work actively to adapt the schedule to individual wishes and needs as much as possible. The position includes work on evenings and weekends. We hire on an ongoing basis, so do not hesitate to submit your application.
