Laboratory Medicine Västerbotten has approximately 520 employees working in laboratory specialties including clinical pathology, clinical immunology and transfusion medicine, clinical chemistry, clinical microbiology and clinical genetics. Biobank, infection prevention and tissue facility are also part of the operations. We are a regional organization with operations in Lycksele, Skellefteå and Umeå. The operations are accredited according to ISO 15189. Clinical Chemistry is located at Norrlands University Hospital in Umeå and at regional hospitals in Lycksele and Skellefteå. Clinical Chemistry has approximately 140 employees, of which approximately 100 are based in Umeå. Parts of the operations are open 24 hours and clinical chemistry in the region produces approximately 7 million analysis results per year. The laboratory primarily uses ready-made method menus from instrument suppliers. The laboratory is highly technological and development-intensive with many complex technical dependencies. We actively work to manage and improve our analytical offerings to provide the best possible service to healthcare. Fast response times are important to meet healthcare needs in acute patient care. As a hospital chemist, you are responsible for first-line service of instruments and associated IT support to maintain daily operations and maintain method quality. Operations development and management of system support for handling analysis orders and responses to healthcare are also part of the work. DUTIES As a hospital chemist with us, you contribute with knowledge and commitment that makes people feel safe in healthcare. Our automated operations within clinical chemistry are in constant development and digital operational support is becoming an increasingly large part of our daily work. In this work, you will have an important role, and your responsibilities include driving continued efficiency and quality improvement of the technical and digital environment. You work in first-line service of modern and advanced analytical instruments and automation solutions. This involves both preventive and corrective maintenance of methods and instruments as well as contact with external service technicians. Problem-solving is part of everyday work. You are also responsible for ensuring that technical procedures exist and are updated and actively participate in documentation to comply with quality management system and accreditation requirements. Procurement with specifications and startup of new methods and instruments are part of the work. The work is conducted in consultation with medically responsible physicians, other hospital chemists, engineers, responsible biomedical analysts and medical director/department head. Daily work is highly varied, ranging from practical tasks to ensure daily operations, quality documentation to participation in and/or leading development projects. You are based in Umeå but have a region-wide assignment. QUALIFICATIONS We are looking for someone who is a chemist, civil engineer or has equivalent education. You have a genuine interest in technology and digitalization, and a desire to continuously develop. Practical experience with troubleshooting and problem-solving regarding analysis methods and analytical instruments is meritorious, but you may also be a recent graduate with curiosity and interest in automated laboratory operations. You have very good knowledge of Swedish, both spoken and written, and can easily communicate with different professions. Interest and ability to independently acquire and share knowledge about new methods and system support is a requirement to function well in the technically advanced environment. Great weight is placed on personal suitability. Internal training and orientation on existing analytical equipment and technical environment occurs continuously during the first years.
