Sweden's most beautiful workplace is looking for you Ship Captains for Pilot Training Working as a Pilot at the Swedish Maritime Administration As a pilot, you work navigating vessels through difficult passages along our coasts and maneuvering ships to and from ports. You will board different types of vessels equipped with various types of navigation equipment of varying quality and scope. This places high demands on your skills and ability to adapt to different situations. Right now we are recruiting pilots for: Gävle pilot area (Gävle/Söderhamn) Södertälje pilot area Oxelösund pilot area (placement in Oxelösund or Norrköping) Gothenburg pilot area Malmö pilot area Operating area Lake Vänern/Canal The call-out time is 90 minutes, so we prefer that you live, or are willing to live, near one of these locations. To succeed as a pilot, you are someone who has developed a strong ability to collaborate with many different types of people. You also need to have high multitasking capacity, be calm, stable and composed in stressful situations. It is important that you have good self-awareness and sound judgment. You are accommodating and actively work to deliver solutions to our customers. Your personal qualities will play a major role. As an applicant, you must have a valid Swedish master mariner's certificate class I. (Officers class II with appropriate experience from senior positions may potentially be assessed as equivalent). You have a valid medical certificate for seafarers. You have completed Basic Safety Training in accordance with STCW and have a valid certificate. You must have a driver's license for cars. We want you to have acquired practical experience working as an officer aboard modern vessels. We expect that over the years you have acquired excellent knowledge in communicating in both Swedish and English. Working as a pilot suits both women and men. The position may require Swedish citizenship. Security clearance with background check may be conducted before a job offer is made. Why should you choose the Swedish Maritime Administration? A person appointed as a pilot will undergo training for 6-12 months, during which time a probationary employment applies. The mentor team consists of pilots in active service. A requirement for permanent employment is that the training is completed with a satisfactory result. The positions are to be filled as soon as possible, with a start date no later than early 2027 and training start in mid-March 2027. We make our selection using, among other things, in-depth personal assessment through occupational psychological aptitude tests, practical simulator driving, interviews and possible security clearance. Tests and interviews are conducted primarily starting after summer 2026. Security clearance is only done for final candidates where security clearance interviews are held primarily at the Swedish Maritime Administration in Norrköping.
