Senior Legal Counsel for Defense Intelligence Would you like to work on an interesting and important assignment at a small developing agency? The Swedish Inspectorate for Defense Intelligence Activities (Siun) is seeking a senior legal counsel. Siun is a small agency that ensures that defense intelligence activities conducted by the Swedish Armed Forces, the Swedish Defense Radio Institute, the Swedish Defense Material Administration, and the Swedish Institute of International Affairs are carried out in accordance with the law. Siun also, through a special decision-making body called the Delegation for Control, reviews individual requests to determine whether individuals have been subject to unauthorized signals intelligence. Siun is led by a board that makes the agency's decisions. Siun's secretariat supports the board's work. About the Role As a legal counsel at Siun, you will participate in the agency's oversight activities and, together with your colleagues in the secretariat, prepare oversight reviews at the defense intelligence agencies. You will conduct and present oversight preparations, legal investigations, and present proposals for decisions. You will also, as part of the Delegation's activities, investigate inquiries from individuals regarding whether they have been subject to unauthorized signals intelligence. The agency's administrative law duties are also part of your work. The work creates many contact points with both legal professionals and other professions, and the role requires that you actively develop and maintain sustainable relationships and conduct yourself in a way that creates security and trust with both colleagues and external contacts. Siun is currently in a development phase where a data and analytics-oriented oversight function is being formed, which means that in due time you will be able to work alongside both legal professionals and colleagues with other expertise in oversight work. You will then contribute to transforming complex information into clear insights and decision-making materials where your ability to understand new contexts will be invaluable. You will be part of varied and distinctive work that is both independent and cross-functional and that requires collaboration with colleagues across multiple areas of expertise. Domestic and international travel may occur. Your Profile We are looking for someone with: · a law degree (180 credits or 270 hours) · several years of current experience with qualified legal work in the public sector · strong analytical abilities · excellent written and oral communication skills It is advantageous to have: · experience in intelligence activities · experience in state operations · experience working at an appellate court · experience in supervisory, oversight, or investigative work You should be unpretentious and have strong collaboration skills. You enjoy tackling complex questions where there are not always ready-made answers, and you like learning new things. You are responsible, work systematically, and take initiative and drive your tasks independently. In the selection process, great weight will be placed on your personal qualities, such as being a trustworthy person with high personal maturity. Furthermore, having good judgment, high integrity, and the ability to work at a small agency with very high confidentiality requirements. Other Information Swedish citizenship is required. The Public Employment Service and Testing Board assists Siun with testing during recruitment. Security vetting and background checks are conducted before employment.
