Legal Director
The Prosecution Authority is seeking a Legal Director also serving as Head of the Legal Department at the headquarters in Stockholm.
The department currently consists of approximately 30 employees, mainly distributed across three units: the administrative unit, the unit for international coordination and development, and the unit for international legal cooperation. The department also has a Deputy Legal Director.
The Legal Department is primarily responsible for:
The agency's rules of procedure, the issuance of the Prosecution Authority's regulations and general advice, the Director of Public Prosecution's regulations on summary fines, the Director of Public Prosecution's guidelines, the Director of Public Prosecution's legal positions, the Prosecution Authority's guidelines and Legal guidance
Legal development to the extent this is not a task for the Development Center or the Supervision Department
Coordination of referrals, joint preparations and distributions to the agency
Support and services regarding legal information within the agency
Other in-house legal matters
The Legal Director is the publisher of the Prosecution Authority's regulations collection.
The Legal Department is also primarily responsible for the Director of Public Prosecution's handling of criminal law matters not handled by the Supervision Department. These tasks include, among other things, the Director of Public Prosecution's activities in the Supreme Court, excluding matters concerning reinstatement and appeals on grounds of miscarriage of justice, a list of prioritized precedent issues, and general legal inquiries from the public and others.
The Legal Department houses the agency's archives function and library, which provide support and services regarding legal information to the entire agency.
Your responsibilities
The Legal Director is responsible for the department's operations, resources and results. As department head, you have overall personnel and work environment responsibility for the department's employees, whom you lead through the three unit heads and the Deputy Legal Director.
The Legal Director cooperates with other departments at headquarters, the Development Center, prosecutorial districts/National Prosecution Division, prosecution chambers, national units, and other agencies.
The Legal Director reports directly to the Director of Public Prosecution and is part of the Prosecution Authority's management group, contributing to the strategic work of the agency. You are expected to have a holistic perspective and contribute to both the agency's leadership and long-term development.
Your qualities and qualifications
We are looking for someone who has
a Nordic law degree
well-documented experience of legal governance and leadership of public sector operations
well-documented practical experience of criminal and procedural law as a judge or prosecutor
well-documented experience of leadership with personnel responsibility, such as unit head or equivalent level
leadership training
experience of cooperating with other agencies and organizations
very good ability to express yourself in Swedish orally and in writing, and good ability to express yourself in English orally and in writing.
It is meritorious if you have
well-documented experience of legislative work
well-documented experience of leading through subordinate managers
well-documented experience of working with strategic issues at the organization-wide level
well-documented experience of implementing and anchoring strategic issues in the operations you lead.
