A permanent position as Professor in Epidemiology with a focus on Cardiovascular Diseases. The position is located at the Department of Clinical Sciences in Malmö and is closely linked to the strategic research area EpiHealth (Epidemiology for Health), which is led by Lund University in collaboration with Uppsala University.
The position cannot be renegotiated into a combined employment.
Job Responsibilities
The job responsibilities include primarily research, but also teaching and participation in management tasks at the Faculty of Medicine.
Lund University has excellent conditions for epidemiological research thanks to the long-term investment in EpiHealth (Epidemiology for Health) as a strategic research area for national and international excellence in epidemiology. Furthermore, Lund University has access to several large research databases with extensive phenotyping and biobank samples, such as Malmö Diet and Cancer, Malmö Offspring Study, Malmö Preventive Medicine, Men Born 1914, Successful Ageing in Skåne (GÅS), the EpiHealth Cohort, and the Swedish Cardiopulmonary BioImage Study (SCAPIS).
The holder is expected to conduct independent research at a very high national and international level within epidemiology with a focus on cardiovascular diseases. The position aims to strengthen and develop strategically important research in cardiovascular epidemiology at the Faculty of Medicine, Lund University.
Teaching and development of courses at undergraduate, advanced, and postgraduate levels constitute an important part of the job responsibilities.
The holder is expected to be willing to assume the role of research group leader at IKVM. Furthermore, the holder is also expected to perform other tasks normally associated with a professorial position, such as administrative duties and internal and external positions of trust. The Professor shall represent the subject nationally and internationally, contribute to developing excellence within the strategic research area EpiHealth, and collaborate with society at large.
Other job responsibilities may also occur.
Qualifications
According to the Higher Education Ordinance 4 Chapter 3 §, a person qualified to be employed as a Professor is one who has demonstrated both scientific and pedagogical skills.
The applicant must have completed higher education pedagogy training of at least five weeks. If the holder is deemed to have special reasons for not having completed five weeks of higher education pedagogy training at the start of employment, the holder shall complete such training within two years from the start of employment (see Lund University's employment regulations).
For teachers at Lund University, a general qualification requirement is to be suitable and to have the ability otherwise necessary to perform the job responsibilities well.
Assessment Criteria
The applicant shall demonstrate very good scientific and pedagogical skills of significance for epidemiology with a focus on cardiovascular diseases. In the assessment, particular emphasis will be placed on scientific skills.
The applicant's scientific skills are demonstrated through current, leading, and independent research activities at a very high international level.
Publications in international scientific journals and nationally and internationally competitive grants obtained as principal applicant will be given importance.
Furthermore, the applicant should also demonstrate the ability to initiate and conduct national and international research collaborations. The applicant shall demonstrate the ability to contribute to future research development. Future plans and visions will be given importance. Current and relevant experience in clinically oriented research and collaborations is meritorious.
The applicant shall demonstrate pedagogical skills relevant to the subject area in both education and supervision at undergraduate, advanced, and postgraduate levels. This is demonstrated through the ability to plan, conduct, lead, and develop education.
Moreover, considerable emphasis will be placed on demonstrated ability for academic leadership, strategic development, and collaboration. The applicant shall demonstrate the ability and potential to lead and develop activities. This is demonstrated through documented leadership qualities, for example through management roles, positions of trust, leadership training, or leadership in research environments, interdisciplinary projects, or consortia. Leadership skills also include good communication and cooperation-oriented competence, the ability to promote employees' professional development, and to contribute to a good work environment. Experience in leadership in international contexts is meritorious, as is experience and demonstrated ability to conduct strategic development work within interdisciplinary research environments.
Importance will also be placed on skills in organizational development and collaboration and the ability to interact with the surrounding society. This is demonstrated through experience and the ability to communicate research results and to create collaborations with researchers from various disciplines and with relevant actors outside academia. The ability to disseminate knowledge and contribute to implementing research results in society or clinical practice is meritorious.
