Would you like to work in one of the world's fastest-growing technology areas, supported by competent and friendly colleagues in an international environment? Would you like an employer that invests in sustainable employment practices and offers secure, favorable working conditions? Welcome to apply for a postdoctoral position at Uppsala University. The Department of Medical Sciences is a large clinical institution with approximately 250 employees and over 900 people affiliated through Akademiska Hospital. The department has a broad research profile with strong research groups in numerous areas. Learn more about the department's activities at www.medsci.uu.se. We are now seeking a driven researcher at the postdoctoral level for the Molecular Precision Medicine research group at the Department of Medical Sciences, which is active at the Biomedical Center (BMC). The research group studies various diseases using large-scale genetic methods https://www.uu.se/en/department/medical-sciences/research/research-groups/molecular-precision-medicine. Through close collaboration with clinical researchers at Akademiska Hospital in Uppsala, our research group has access to unique sample collections and clinical patient information. Close collaboration with the national genomics infrastructure (National Genomics Infrastructure, NGI) at Science for Life Laboratory (SciLifeLab) provides the research group with access to next-generation sequencing technology: https://ngisweden.scilifelab.se/. The current project focuses on analyzing blood samples from children with leukemia, healthy controls, and in vitro cell models using various omics technologies. The overall goal is to take the step toward precision medicine in childhood leukemia. We aim to identify circulating biomarkers that can distinguish high-risk patients from low-risk patients. With this strategy, we want to be able to shorten chemotherapy treatment for low-risk patients while targeting treatment more specifically to the high-risk group. We will also conduct drug screens for targeted therapies, testing promising new drugs that are in preclinical and early clinical trials. Financed by the transnational European Partnership for Personalised Medicine (EP PerMed), this project is a close collaboration with leading research groups in pediatric hematology at the University of Freiburg and Technical University of Munich in Germany and the University of Tampere in Finland. As a postdoctoral researcher on this project, you will have a key role in integrating and analyzing multi-omics data within the consortium to deepen understanding of childhood leukemia at the molecular level and contribute to the development of new treatment strategies. You will be part of Uppsala University's Molecular Precision Medicine research group, where research focuses on both the development of new genomics techniques and their application to clinically relevant questions in pediatric oncology. Duties Analyze multi-omics data from pediatric leukemia samples and in vitro models, including genomics (WGS), transcriptomics (bulk and scRNA-seq), epigenomics (methylation arrays), and proteomics (Olink Explore PEA, Illumina SomaSeq) data. Develop and apply machine learning models to identify disease subtypes and predict treatment response. Collaborate with pediatric oncologists, bioinformaticians, and computational biologists, both within the research group and with our international collaborators. Write scientific articles and present project results at scientific meetings and conferences. Qualifications PhD in bioinformatics, computational biology, molecular biology, or a related field, or a foreign degree assessed as equivalent to a PhD in one of these areas. The degree must be completed by the time of the employment decision. Preferably, the degree should have been completed no more than three years ago. When calculating the three-year period, the deadline for applications is the starting point. If there are special circumstances, such a degree may have been completed earlier. Special circumstances include leave due to illness, parental leave, positions of trust within labor organizations, etc. Experience with large-scale data analysis and programming in relevant languages such as Python and R. Experience handling large datasets in a LINUX/UNIX environment. Experience with large-scale DNA or RNA sequencing. Experience analyzing proteomics data, including data from affinity-based proteomics analyses and/or mass spectrometry. Excellent communication and collaboration skills. Good oral and written proficiency in English. Desirable/Meriting Additional Qualifications Experience integrating multi-omics data. Competence in machine learning for biomedical applications. About the Position The employment is time-limited for two years according to central collective agreement, with possible extension for up to an additional year. Full-time/100%. Start date October 1 or by agreement. Location: Uppsala. Information about the position is provided by: Jessica Nordlund ([email protected]) Welcome to submit your application by September 9, 2026, UFV-PA 2026/2468.
