Popis:

Postdoctoral Fellow in Mineralogy, Petrophysics and Seismic Methods with a focus on graphite exploration Are you interested in developing innovative and cost-effective methods for graphite exploration in close collaboration with academic and industrial partners? Do you want to work in an international research environment with access to advanced petrophysical and geophysical methods? Welcome to apply for a postdoctoral position at Uppsala University. The Department of Earth Sciences is Sweden's most comprehensive academic environment for research and education in geosciences. We have broad expertise that contributes to solutions for important societal issues. Our six research divisions: • Geophysics • Air, Water and Landscape Science • Mineralogy, Petrology and Tectonics • Natural Resources and Sustainable Development • Paleobiology • Wind Energy For more information see: https://www.uu.se/institution/geovetenskaper The postdoctoral fellow will work within the Vinnova-funded project ICE-GRAPH (Innovative and cost-effective approaches to graphite exploration). Duties You will contribute to the project's petrophysical and geophysical research and to the development of an integrated methodology for graphite exploration. The work includes planning and conducting laboratory-based petrophysical investigations, analysis of seismic data and rock structure, and integrating results with geological, mineralogical and structural geological information from the project and related collaborations. The position involves interpreting the relationships between rock properties, deformation, metamorphic conditions and geophysical response, as well as evaluating how laboratory measurements can be used to constrain and interpret seismic observations at field scale. You will also contribute to developing and validating transferable methods for exploration screening, assessment of target areas and decision support in collaboration with academic and industrial partners. The duties also include scientific publishing, presenting results at conferences and project meetings, project reporting and research data management. The position may also include limited participation in teaching and supervision of bachelor's and master's student projects (up to 20%). The position requires participation in fieldwork, laboratory investigations and project meetings, including travel within Sweden and internationally. Qualifications A doctoral degree in geophysics, rock physics, petrophysics, petrology, structural geology or a related earth science subject, or a foreign degree assessed as equivalent to such a doctoral degree. The degree must be completed by the time the employment decision is made. Preferably, the degree should have been completed no more than three years before the application deadline. If there are special reasons, the degree may have been completed earlier. Special reasons include, for example, leave due to illness, parental leave or positions of trust within trade union organizations. The position also requires: documented experience in one or more of the following areas: petrophysical, rock physical, seismic, mineralogical or petrological investigations of rocks or other geological materials; experience in quantitative data analysis and scientific interpretation of laboratory data or geophysical data; ability to work independently, plan and document research and complete tasks within agreed timeframes; strong collaboration and communication skills in an interdisciplinary and international environment; very good ability to communicate verbally and in writing in English. Great weight will be placed on personal suitability, particularly analytical ability, accuracy, initiative and ability to integrate laboratory data with geological and geophysical observations. Desirable/Meriting additional qualifications Documented knowledge or experience in one or more of the following areas is meriting: documented knowledge of seismic theory and experience with seismic data analysis or similar geophysical datasets; measurement or modeling of P- and S-wave velocities, elastic properties or seismic anisotropy; knowledge of or experience with theory, processing and/or data acquisition for seismic methods, particularly one or more of the following: surface wave analysis, HVSR, ambient seismic noise analysis, seismic inversion, seismic tomography, reflection seismics or refraction seismics; anisotropy of magnetic susceptibility (AMS), rock magnetism, crystallographic orientation or another quantitative method for characterizing rock structure; programming and reproducible data analysis, for example in Python, MATLAB or R; integration of laboratory-based petrophysical measurements with geophysical data at field scale; geological or mineralogical understanding of metamorphic, graphite-bearing or organic-rich rocks; collaboration with the minerals industry, geological surveys or applied mineral exploration projects. About the position The position is fixed-term for two years according to central collective agreement. Full-time. Start date 15 October 2026 or by agreement. Location: Uppsala. For information about the position, contact: Iwona Klonowska, [email protected], or Christian Schiffer, [email protected] In this recruitment, we have replaced the cover letter with questions that you answer in connection with your application. Your answers will be used as part of the selection process. Welcome to submit your application by 28 August 2026, UFV-PA 2026/2407.
