Popis:

We have the strength of over 50,000 students and employees. Students who give hope for the future. Employees who every day contribute to Linköping University meeting the challenges of our time. Our values are based on credibility, trust, and security. By being bold, thinking freely, and creating new things, we build together, with big and small actions, a better future. Welcome to apply for a job with us! We are now seeking a postdoctoral researcher in immersive visualization at the Department of Science and Engineering, Campus Norrköping. Field of Study For a description of the field of study, see the complete announcement on Lediga jobb - Linköpings universitet. Your Tasks As a postdoctoral researcher, you will primarily conduct research. Some teaching may be included in the position, but no more than 20% of working time. The overarching goal of the position is to investigate how astrovisualization can support both advanced scientific analysis and public understanding of astronomy. OpenSpace is particularly well suited for this, as it enables work with real scientific datasets while allowing the same material to be transformed into interactive public presentations. This creates opportunities for mutual knowledge exchange between astronomers, visualization researchers, educators, and the public: scientific questions and datasets contribute to science communication, while public audiences highlight new requirements for visualization design, narrative, interaction, and explanatory models. The position will focus on developing a research direction around OpenSpace as a platform for astrovisualization and public interaction. This includes identifying publishable research questions based on existing and ongoing OpenSpace work, conducting user studies with astronomers and educators, and producing scientific publications on interactive astronomical visualization, immersive data presentation, and the role of planetariums and science centers in science communication. The work will use the dome theater at Visualization Center C as a central experimental and dissemination environment, while leveraging the broader OpenSpace network of international collaborators, planetariums, and scientific institutions. Your Qualifications To be eligible for employment as a postdoctoral researcher, you must have completed a doctoral degree or hold a foreign degree assessed as equivalent to a doctoral degree. The degree must be completed by the time the employment decision is made. It is advantageous if your doctoral degree is no older than three years at the end of the application deadline. If there are special reasons for an older degree – for example, statutory leave – this can be considered. We are seeking a candidate with a strong research background in visualization, scientific data processing, astronomical visualization, or a related field. The applicant must have documented experience in scientific publishing and the ability to formulate, conduct, and communicate independent research in data visualization and its application to complex scientific data. Experience with uncertainty visualization, topological data analysis, machine learning, or other computational methods for analyzing and interpreting large, contextualized scientific datasets is particularly advantageous. The position requires an interest in interdisciplinary research and the ability to collaborate with domain experts, such as astronomers, visualization researchers, data scientists, educators, and professionals in public engagement. Since the project aims to connect research-driven astrovisualization with public dissemination, it is particularly advantageous if the candidate has experience working across disciplinary boundaries and translating scientific or technical results into forms that can be used by both experts and a broader public. Experience in astrophysics, astronomy, planetology, climate science, or other data-intensive scientific fields is advantageous. Previous experience with immersive visualization environments, interactive visualization systems, planetariums, science centers, or public engagement is also advantageous. The candidate should have strong abilities to work in an international research environment and contribute both to peer-reviewed publications and to the broader development of astrovisualization as a research field connected to OpenSpace. The applicant must have excellent English language skills, including the ability to write scientific articles, present research results, and communicate effectively in international and interdisciplinary contexts. Great weight will be placed on personal qualities and suitability. Your Workplace You will work at the Unit for Immersive Visualization, Department of Science and Engineering located at Campus Norrköping. The office environment is shared between Linköping University and Visualization Center C. About the Position The position is a time-limited employment for two years with the possibility of extension for a combined employment period of a maximum of three years. The postdoctoral position is full-time. Start date is planned for 2026-10-01 or by agreement. The position may be placed in a security classification. If so, a security vetting with records check will be conducted before the employment decision is made. Salary and Benefits Linköping University applies individual and differentiated salary setting in accordance with applicable collective agreements (RALS/RALS-T) and the university's salary guidelines.
